    Reworking a horseshoe

And I am the lucky lady! Isn't he amazing?? I have had quite a few people choking up with the amazing thing that he did for me, including me. The ring is absolutely perfect and it turns out I never had to lacquer it to stop it rusting, I just make sure I take it off when I wash etc. And , I...

please tell me how you treat thrush/suspected thrush in a horse that lives out.

I always use hydrogen peroxide if they start with thrush, it has the added benefit of being cheap!! It's not a maintenance thing though, I use anti-bac on my mare with deep clefts and it's brilliant stuff

Lost my horse and myself it would seem

I know, it sounds so ungrateful to say that about them too as there are plenty of people who would give their right arm for them! I do have a bond with them, I just don't seem to have the same pride I did with him. They aren't as talented as him but that's not their fault and they do have...

Lost my horse and myself it would seem

I don't normally post self pitying things but I'm totally lost and it helped to post on here when one of my youngsters was killed in an accident a few years ago. This is long, sorry! I lost my 19yr old in April this year to colic, I have had him since he was 3 and we have lived through so many...

Ellen Whittaker Banned From Driving!!! OOOOps

I think everyone has the same opinion about this. No one is saying that because someone is moronic and disrespectful to other people and their lives on the road that these people are innately evil and nor are we attempting to cause you offence through your partners father. We are all stating...

Ellen Whittaker Banned From Driving!!! OOOOps

Yes, everyone makes mistakes but when you are in the public eye you have an even bigger responsibility to make sure that you portray an image that reflects the realms of what is classed as acceptable. Although the lines of what behaviour is classed as acceptable may be a personal thing, I think...

Severe itching, any ideas? Also in vet

I think of flanks as her side, do you you mean that or her 'bum cheeks'? You havent mentioned anything about your worming regime.. Have you tried having a worm count done on her? Only cost £10 and you can order the kit online. When I had a horse who suffered with sever sweet itch there was...

    Long reining

I always use side reins as it gives more control. I also opt to use rope instead of lunge lines as i find the heavier material is far easier to use to get them going forward, its a lot easier to give them a tap on the side with it than it is a light lunge line. I dont fasten them through...

How do you "judge" if someone is OK to share you horse?

I have had numerous sharers for my horses and find that one of the biggest things you should look for is reliability! I know this is very difficult from just meeting someone but when you arrange for someone to come and ride your horse etc and they dont turn up it totally throws all your plans...

why can't waterproof rugs actually keep out the water

I found this thread as i am having a 'debate' with weatherbeta at the min. I purchased 4 med-lightweight combo turnouts at the same time 3 x 6'9" and 1 x 6'6" and one of the 6'9" and the 6'6" is pouring in rain across their backs. Ihave sent them pictures and they just keep saying that my...

will the pain ever go away??

I don't believe it ever truly goes away, you just take it on as part of every day life and it becomes a little less acute. I lost my youngster nearly 3 years ago now and all i can say is that this forum really helped me out. Thinking about him even now hurts on a different level to anything i...

Insuring your horse to be ridden at shows

I currently don't insure one of my horses as she has so many exclusions it seems far too costly for the small amount of her left to insure. However, this obviously leaves me open for 3rd party liability. I know i can get this from the BHS Gold membership but i am guessing this doesn't cover...
