    Cross Country Thread!

Is it me or are the cross country stewards very slow to react today? Especially at the maltings where there has been a lot of problems, I feel like I'm screaming stop recording on your phone and help that horse!

Can 'shortcuts' result in greater longevity?

Its unlikely that the majority of training aids are preventing a long term phyisical issue. My opinion is that horses should be trained not forced. I use artifical aids if neccessary but sparingly and rarely. I have probably used all artificial training aids at some point but don't...

Can 'shortcuts' result in greater longevity?

If you took up yoga and couldnt flex enough to do a move would you rather someone pulled, pushed and held you into the correct shape over three sessions or let you gradually teach your muscles to do it over ten sessions I know what Id prefer!

Need your help horse shopping please - at my wits end!

I dont think what your looking for is impossible! I have the exact horse you described just without much competition experince (he will be sj and xc in competition from next week) and he will be up for sale for €1500 in a couple of weeks. Of course I am in Ireland. If you open up your...

Alternatives to a martingale that runs between the legs?

Your right It does. I dont ride in a martingale as my horses dont need one but I ride in an irish one so reins wont go over their heads. 5 point is probably your best bet but I dont think it will be as good as a normal martingale as it will move a bit but hopefully will stay put enough to do...

    Advice regarding taking photography/photographers

Indoors are hard and wahtever you do the photos wont come out perfectly. Open up the aperture as much as you can (usually 4 on most cameras unless your lucky enough to have a 2.8 lens!) Lower the shutter speed but not too much as you still need it to not be blurry, try 1/200 if jumping might get...

How long does it take to warm your horse up

I only do about a 10 minute warm up before dressage, both horses i compete in it get very bored if I go any longer so I keep the warm up short to keep them sharp! I only do about 10 mins for sj and xc too but usual with a good but of walking before I start the actual warm up

    Reward or ignore spook behaviour?

Im not sure if Im reading this right but is it the manner she is asking drivers to stop or just telling drivers to stop. Sounds a bit of an accusing way to tell people to stop but Id imagine its effective! I know in Ireland if a person in charge of an animal tells a driver to stop the driver...

I used to keep my horse vaccinated when it was a requirement for competing but he hasnt been vaccinated in a while nor has any of the other horses he is with. All are wormed regualarly and have farrier out often

    OTT on rugging?

I rug according to the horse, my old fella would have a lightweight waterproof on now but he ripped it so have to get a new one, he felt a bit cold today but will have to make do. The younger horses wont see a rug until October at least. What I think people need to understand though is...
