You can probably expect to pay anything from maybe £20 to..... well easily upwards of £60/70. Depending on who/how far they're travelling/how many they're teaching when they're there.
I'm currently having lessons with 3 people. £30, £37.50 & £75, for 45 mins. The last doesn't even come aaaaaall...
I've sent my white saddlecloth off to have coloured piping added, as I decided I didn't like the white with white edging!! I also have a cream one with navy & gold edging that I use for affiliated dressage comps, which I think looks smart on my bay. Nobody has ever commented!
Blazehill is fab but loooong waiting list. Weaver Equestrian is possibly a bit busy for you (large yard, riding school/PC/RC as well as liveries). I'm now on Ashwood which is lovely, lots of facilities but not crazy busy (but does have comps inc. HT/ODE, Arena eventing & dressage) but most times...
I'd just do a running plait - with a bit of practice, they are 10x quicker than normal plaits ;) I bung one in whenever I work my Fell or his mane gets caught up on everything. I always keep them close to the crest - they tend to fall out if you let them get looser.
Lattice plaits aren't...
I'd say crack on & go BD then :) Certainly given me a kick up the butt & made me really motivated to improve! You're starting at the right time to get used to the new structure at least!!
I sort of did what you're currently planning this year. I knew I would join BD, but didn't have much hope of achieving anything, so also decided to start out on the Trailblazer's Q route at elem, and qualified 2nd rounds easily. Then started doing nov with BD, first outing was a bit rubbish but...
Someone on Ebay sells what looks (to me) like a nice starter set... I figured I'd probably try it for my boy at some point this winter, £50 for the pair I figure it could be worse! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351085708501?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&var=620314864164&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
If I could give up the junk food, I could compete, AND feel rich :/ But.... it calls to me!
Bonus of all your friends being on the internet though is they're usually a lot cheaper to meet up with :p (also, yes, I don't really pay attention to what I read on the internet!!)
I have no transport of my own, managed to compete my gelding unaff & affiliated dressage this year, usually competing twice a month, with 2 'big' trips - Stoneleigh park for Trailblazer's finals (2x, 1.5hr each way for drop off & collection) & East Yorks for Regionals (3hrs away). Costs being...
My gelding has yet to achieve a decent med trot in the ring which to us, is the hardest part of novice!! but we're now doing elems... :p Have a look at the sheets, do you feel confident riding those movements? If so, go for it & see what you get. Only you will be bothered about your score at the...
I thought it was a lovely competition, no major organisational problems & we just arrived after having breakfast ourselves on the Sunday, as being in the Elem they did already have a rough idea of times (there was a sheet in the secretaries office) which was afternoon so didn't have to panic...
