My hay supplier has run out and I'm beginning to panic. Like a lot of native owners, I feed hay throughout the summer as they come in for a break from the grass during the day.
If anyone knows of a supplier within reasonable travelling distance of HD9, please 🙏 let me know.
Assuming you only need to go though one gate, could you put a rock in front of the other one to stop it swinging open?
We do this with our gates. Rock is heavy enough to keep the gate closed, but easily kicked out of the way when I don't need it there.
I think you really love this horse and you aren't ready to give up on him.
My best suggestion would be to give him plenty of variety in his work to keep him happy. As a for instance, could you take him to the gallops every now and then and let him have a bit of a blast to keep him sweet...
Thanks for all the replies. All been very helpful.
So we finished the course on Wednesday (never putting me or him through the equi haler again!).
He can now walk, trot and canter across the field without coughing, but will cough once or twice after eating his bucket feed.
I'm new to this...
I'm not as knowledgeable as other posters, as I've only lived here for 8 years.
Agree with PAS that Silkstone Common and Cawthorne are lovely and very horsey, so you might be lucky with finding separate land to buy or rent. Silkstone would be more expensive than my area (HD9). Lots of pretty...
I pretty much spent all day with him today, and he's actually only coughing when he decides to have a hooley. So really that is an improvement. He's still got another 4 days on it, so hopefully he'll keep improving.
