It baffles me that walkers, even with no horse experience would leave gates open ?! Surely that's hill walking 101 - close all gates behind you !! I think if it's not an option to have a kissing gate or similar then a large sign might be the way to go.

Everyone has a horse for different reasons and so long as the horse is being cared for and treated well then I really can't see why it's anyone else's business what they do with their own animal. I have my horses on full livery. I work shifts which makes it tricky, but not impossible to care...
