People can be as unpredictable as horses !!

HOYS today - shocked at 'professional's' behaviour

Well I apologise and I guess you know best seeing it close up and all. I'm certainly now convinced that an experienced professional would behave this way in front of a huge crowd for pretty much zero reason, not to mention that he would have the strength to pull a horse right over backward ...

HOYS today - shocked at 'professional's' behaviour

Haven't read all replies so not sure if someone has mentioned this ... I can understand that perhaps it appears excessive force was used but this certainly wasn't a result of "temper" on Ben Maher's part - you can see in the video that there was an arena steward standing very near to where the...

Anyone jumping @ lower levels use a Jumping Saddle?

Whatever suits you !! If you would feel more comfortable in a jumping saddle then why not, no matter the height. I always jump in a jumping saddle even though I rarely jump anymore after I was badly injured and never very high these days. I use a Black Country cross country saddle and I love it...

Non horsey parents think everything a waste of money

I'm incredibly lucky that my own parents and hubby despite being entirely non-horsey are extremely tolerant and understanding of the money pit that is my two horses. My mother-in-law however ... She thinks it's absurd. She thinks all my animals are absurd haha !! A waste of money and time. Even...

For those with multiple horses - why?

I currently have two. One horse of a life time. Second bought to break and sell on, still own her four years later as fell in love. She's finally up for sale now though as the reality of two horses, two dogs, husband and home to take care of plus full time very heavy uni course (student nurse)...

    rugging ?????

I saw a really interesting article, I wish I could remember the link and it was talking about how the horse's coat actually works in bad weather. Apparently, horses that have been allowed to grow a normal winter coat and are accustomed to being outdoors can regulate their own body temp down to...

any good websites explaining what draw reins actually do???

I actually love draw reins and I think they get a bad rap from the fact that so many people use them as a pulley to incorrectly force the horse's head in. Used correctly OP, they are a very useful tool to hold together a horse who is maybe quite long and strung out but they need twice as much...

    Making a field 'walker safe'?

It baffles me that walkers, even with no horse experience would leave gates open ?! Surely that's hill walking 101 - close all gates behind you !! I think if it's not an option to have a kissing gate or similar then a large sign might be the way to go.

    Got a bad tattoo

Aah it's not so bad !! And don't tell people they don't hurt LOL !! They do, believe me !! I guess it depends on what you're getting. I got a half sleeve done two weeks ago in one five hour sit - the most painful experience of my life haha !! IMO it's worth it for beautiful, permanent artwork...

why have a horse if you have it on full livery?

Everyone has a horse for different reasons and so long as the horse is being cared for and treated well then I really can't see why it's anyone else's business what they do with their own animal. I have my horses on full livery. I work shifts which makes it tricky, but not impossible to care...

How long does it take to fully grieve a loss

So so sorry for your painful loss. No counsellor will ever laugh at you. It's their job to support and guide you to work through your feelings and they are professionals. If you feel like this might help you to move on then it's something to think about but I don't think you've given yourself...

    Horse sales !?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

A woman I used to work and I regularly purchased horses at sales to reschool or back and sell on. It is a bit of a gamble, I'll be honest with you but really we never had a particularly bad experience. Not all the horses we pick up turned out to be what we hoped but that's just the way things...

    Adventure number 2

Brilliant I would love to do something like this but don't think my batty warmblood would stand for it unlike your fabulous Basil !! This thread really had me smiling, looking forward to your report of the next leg !!

    Menages remember when

As a kid I did all my riding in massive open fields that surrounded our property. We had some awesomely hair raising experiences out there haha !! Our ponies had no qualms about simply bogging off back to the yard when they'd decided they'd had enough hooleying about for the day !! One...
