My horse is a big tb. Currently kept on a livery yard. Out in the day, individual to, in small ish field, in at night. All basic facilities, zero hacking though.
Does weave at night and is a very lively horse.
Have been on there for years however change of ownership has come with quite a few...
As someone who worked with horses for nearly 15yrs, including racers, competition horses and stud yards, and has finally got out of it.. don't bother! The money is poor and even less for live in, a lot of places treat you like rubbish, winter is horrid and you need very thick skin!
The majority...
My horse has been barefoot for coming up 6 months now. We're on a normal livery yard, field turnout every day.
He's doing amazing and he had typical "sh*t tb feet" was pulling a shoe off every 3/4 days.
Barefoot trimmer, diet overhaul and hoof boots 👌
Mastitis would be my first guess. Mares that have never had a foal can get it too. They can run "milk" its actually the infection. Any heat in teets? Swollen or uncomfortable when touched?
Friend of mine was out hacking locally. Farmer threatened to shoot him and his horse because the horse walked on the grass verge. Armed police were there within the hour, he was arrested and charged, all guns etc siezed, firearms license revoked. Farmer never bothered anyone else since that I've...
So I started my young horse on an alfalfa based feed as he was looking a touch poor after a huge growth spurt.. he broke my hand and kicked the very centre top of my back, a little higher he'd have kicked me in the back of the head and with the force, I've no doubt I'd be dead!
Took him off the...
We get a bees nest in our barn right above my 2 stables every summer. Never causes any issues, horses aren't bothered and bees keep to themselves! They're usually gone in a few weeks. I just keep a pack of antihistamines in just in case.
Had my chestnut tb mare for 17 years, best horse I've ever owned! Very tough little mare, never had a skin issue, lovely temperament, can do anything with her! Completely trust her around kids etc.
She is currently "babysitting" my 4yo bay gelding and has taught him some much needed manners...
Lo cal and thunderbrooks chaff only. I'm lucky he's not your typical skinny tb, he holds weight well so right now he's only on the chaff whilst I work out what to avoid.
Not sure about linseed but it definitely contains alfalfa, so that could be the issue!
Anyone else's horse react badly and become an absolute monster when fed baileys lo cal?
Long story short, 17h tb was an absolute demon!!! Nightmare to handle, broke my hand, kicked me in my back, seriously had me questioning my life choices.
Went away for rebacking and came home a completely...
Completely off the bat but have you tried popping a grazing muzzle on securely when handling him? Put a treat or 2 in the bottom when you put it on so then he associates it with something good. Then at least you dont have to worry about him taking a chunk out of you whilst you try to work out...
Apologies I've not read all the comments but I did see colitis mentioned, which was my first thought when I read your post.
My mare had a second bout of colitis 3 weeks ago now. Absolutely no idea what caused either of the flare ups. She was lethargic, tucked up appearance, slightly elevated...
I've got one with a glossy summer coat and another who still has bits of winter fluff left that she will not let go of! The weather hasn't helped at all, summer one day then winter the next ?
