Admitting you've made a mistake... and selling up?

Do you know anyone with an established horse which you could ride and still work with your youngster? When I was in a similar predicament (well, worse as I wouldn't get of my own!) I had a couple of lessons - which bored me and then had the odd ride on a real plod. Strangely it rekindled...

Why do people put their saddles so far forward?

From the Horsemart ad - a following ad caught my eye - I like the horse ready for 'cubing', is that relating to putting him in a box?

    Passier Reins - lovely...but

I just cannot hang onto them! Have a fab pair of Passier 'eventa' type rubber reins, very soft and flexible but the smooth rubber just runs through my gloves (whitaker ones). Any suggestions for a pair of everyday gloves which work with them? Thank you!

    Cheap Shavings

:) We collected a load of shavings from Jacksons today - they have loads of 'squishy' bales which they are selling off for 4.25. Huge bales, some hard to carry.

    Renting land

Gypley - the clue is your location viz Kent. I paid a similar amount but unfortunately had a fickle landlord and gave up with the hassle and endless maintenance costs. Sadly some landowners see how keen we are and see it as a way to get the property revamped - we even re-surfaced the school!

Theft at livery yards - is it common?

In a nutshell, after years of having my own yard I moved my one remaining horse to livery 3 months ago. Since then a black hole has consumed: 1 pair of Passier rubber reins, a Stubben body brush, 2 x Fly masks, expensive bug rug and weirdest of all, my smelly old :(Ariat boots... Fortunately...

GCT: a very exclusive but dangerous club??

Sorry, I really don't know, we had the whole thing playing and it was one of the snippets I saw. Maybe I am a bit out of date, but no horse should have a rider's disappointment taken out via the bit - this is why I no longer own competitive :cool:SJ horses....

GCT: a very exclusive but dangerous club??

I'm sorry, I looked at the screen as the round ended and saw what happened + heard the commentator remark that the action was uncalled for. As with most things, the negative snipets stick in the mind!

GCT: a very exclusive but dangerous club??

I have to say that the round which haunts me was by a GB lady rider, who decided to take out her frustration on her poor horse's mouth after the faulting round...... the commentator said immediately that is was unecessary. Knocking poles out seems minor imho.

Do people want loan horses anymore?

Thank you - my simple view if that the reference request is to confirm the identity of the prospective new home - especially if they are not in my immediate area. Anyone who really cannot provide any referee would make me wonder if they are suitable. Not meant to offend anyone.

    Advice on offering livery

I would echo the commets about rating, in addition I suspect you will need planning permission for a change of use, this would probably be a commercial application and can cost £1000 +. The change to commercial council tax charges can be quite a shock - I did consider this for a 5 box yard and...

Do people want loan horses anymore?

I have advertised a schoolmaster hack for 2 months now and got nowhere, are people not interested in 17yo super safe hacks, or is the fact that I require a reference and legal agreement putting them off? The only interest shown was from an 'unsuitable' family who wanted a horse for everyone...

Yard manager telling me lies. WWYD?

Is there another livery who is there every day? If you left little pots with a handful of chaff (or whatever suits) for each day perhaps they would help out. Anything to ensure peace of mind and the horse getting what it needs. I know I would do it for another owner without even thinking about it.

So I spoke to the director of WOW saddles at badders....

I saw a saddle recently which wassimilar to the Wow saddles but had adjustable 'rolls' in front and behind to support the young rider - they did mini xc and looked very safe. Will try to find out what it was, several people commented on it and they did say that it is not a Wow (we live a couple...

    May I moan please?

Oh thank you for your kind words, the poor chap 'was' Grade A SJ, but done ****** all for a long while. My fear is that he will become a 'motorbike' for a local pot hunter. He's a sweet and genuine boy but not in any shape or form a 'hack' or family horse. I would go so far as to say that got...
