Events running today in the heat!

We hung on until the last minute, hoping they would cancel. I should have known better really as the chances were pretty slim. I can see both sides; I understand that these events cost money etc but we withdrew as we felt the ground was too hard. Our times were in the middle of the day & our...

    Eventing in the heat...

We withdrew from Eland today, as did half the other competitors looking at the results. Our initial plan was to just do the dressage & the showjumping, as the ground was far too hard for my liking, but when we saw the times we decided we'd rather lose our money.

What do you do with your horses legs after competing?

Would appreciate some opinions on the best way to treat a horses legs following cross country, particularly given the current state of the ground. In the past we have always used Ice Tight & then bandaged for support but I seem to remember reading somewhere that this method actually does more...

    Fuming........

I have the same problem with cyclists when I walk along the canal tow path. They always assume that I will be the one to jump out of the way dragging my dogs with me. One clipped one of my dogs a couple of weeks ago and it took a lot of willpower not to kick him & his bike into the canal. It...

on lead, off lead, what to do

I have two terriers and they are rarely ON the lead. I don't think it's fair to them not to let them run loose each day. And before anybody says 'it's not fair to those dogs that are attacked either' I always put them back on the lead when I see a strange dog approaching, just out of courtesy...

    Recommendations for long leather boots

My daughter needs new boots. Currently wearing a tired pair of Sergio Grasso which she had when she was 14. She’s just had her 30th birthday so they clearly don’t owe us anything. They have been worn regularly, at least once a week, but have taken a bit of battering from this season’s mud. Will...

    fatality at Solihull?

I think the rotational fall was the accident in the States. News on the one at Solihull seems to be a lot more vague. One report said she fell from her horse & was in cardiac arrest by the time the emergency services reached her, but then this wasn’t an equestrian paper so ‘fell from her...

    Any Insurance People Please...?

We had no intention of continuing the treatment but they didn't know that :)

    Any Insurance People Please...?

We told the insurance company we would be forced to continue with the very expensive treatment suggested by our vet as we had no alternative if they were not prepared to come to some agreement with us.

    Any Insurance People Please...?

We have also been down this route with another mare. Just couldn't keep her sound & nobody seemed to be able to get to the bottom of it. Her conformation wasn't good enough to breed from & she couldn't go as a companion as she developed serious mud fever at the drop of a hat. We were left with...
