How much bedding do you use a month?

My horse is on shavings due to RAO.....but he is incredibly filthy and I am a cheap skate! I have found that deep littering in a really thick bed works the best for him. I put in one bag of pellets per week after digging out the wet patch, then top up the bed with half a bag of chip and half a...

    No Olympia Thread?!

I only saw the last 6 riders in the Freestyle, but I have to say I was left wondering where all the harmony in dressage has gone. Hayley and Rubin's Nite were my favourite, and in my opinion he was the only horse that looked truly relaxed and happy in his work, the only one who tracked up in...

    Barefoot Rehab

My TB has been fully barefoot for coming up to two years now and I can honestly say it's the best thing I have ever done for him. I had a host of remedial shoeing done for him after he factured both his hind pedal bones that helped him in the short term, but in hindsight made no long term...

    Saddles - British Eventing Rules

Have a look at the Solution Saddles website, they have done a lot of research and development which includes pressure mapping and the above certainly isn't the case, although I can't speak for other brands. Solution Saddles are FEI approved and are legal for all affiliated disciplines. Simon...

    Speetley BE Event Report

Love this! Well done! I feel your pain regarding the dressage tests, I am currently trying to learn three ready for our elementary debut at the weekend. Is it possible to combine a bit of each into one test? I think it probably is.....! :D

    We're back out there!

Thanks DabDab, I have to say I was starting to think that it would never happen! It's kind of you to mention the change in him - I love keeping old photos because when you are having a bad day they are great to look at to realise how far you have actually come. :)

    We're back out there!

Thanks all, it's been nice to share and I've realised that I actually really enjoyed competing! I'm even looking forward to the next one! :D

    We're back out there!

I love reading everyone's competition reports, but I haven't been able to join in for ages as my horse was diagnosed with RAO around this time last year and he took a long time to come right. We didn't compete at all last year and just focussed on sorting out his breathing and management...

    Trickle net? Alternatives?

Have a look at Nibbleze Nets. They are about £25 each for the largest size, can be used from the floor for horses without shoes and come with a repair kit. I have used mine every day for the last 6 or 7 months and have only just had to patch it. I've been very impressed!

How quickly would you expect a saddler to sell your saddle?

I took two saddles into my local saddler in 2013. They were both lovely saddles, good makes and in great condition. One sold within about 10 months and I only got the cheque for the other one last week.....!

    Bedding woes...

Mine's the same, totally disgusting! I used to deep litter on straw which worked well for him, I just had to make sure that the bed was really deep and add plenty of fresh straw daily. In the last year he has been diagnosed with RAO which is triggered by ammonia (a reason not to use a minimal...

trickle nets/ slow feeders for hay - any ground level options?

Second this! I bought a 20cm Nibbleze net for my TB before Christmas as I was concerned that he was finishing his hay early overnight and if I couldn't check on him late he was going for long periods without anything to eat. He hasn't got confirmed ulcers, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was...

    Thursday again! Weekend plans?

*Whispers* We're off to our first competition of the year on Sunday, but don't tell him because he may just come up with some other excuse not to go!

    Continental reins- recommendations please?

Second this! I bought some because I was fed up with my continental reins removing the skin on my fingers and rubbing the hair off my horse's neck. I was a bit dubious about them because I generally don't like rubber reins because I find them a bit thick, but the Henry James ones are lovely...

    How do you pronounce...

Not horse related, but the constant use of the words "myself" and "yourself" really drives me up the wall. "Come and speak to myself about that", "myself and Bob went to the shops" or "I rang to speak to yourself". It just doesn't sound right to me! Whatever happened to the words "me", "you"...
