I think everyone should just accept that not everything works for all horses and sometimes you have to think outside the box. There is some really good stuff in Parelli as well as other stuff you may not choose ... The Horsanality work is amazing and helped me with my horse to understand him...
Thank you fburton I believe in health debate! and I firmly believe that you never stop learning ... I think its nice when friends can support each other despite the different opinions! :))
At my last yard I was bullied and to the point that some kind person stabbed my green ball 4 times with a knife just to make sure I was unable to re-pair it and my experience of this type of behavior over the years has left me a little 'sour' of those who kick off about people who practice this...
p.s it may be his dose of metformin needs to be re-evaluated. My horse was on it last winter coz I couldn't do as much work for him but came off it when it got warmer and I could work him enough ... just a thought that perhaps you vet needs to re-think his dose.
Best wishes

Hi I also agree with having a read up on the Metabolic Horse group. The key is to keep the insulin level low as with diabetics (just how I understand it from my EMS horse) So, my horse has a bald fied with hay during the day so he can still eat as nature intended ... he then has 3 feeds of...
I don't think it is just horses that are bullied ... I certainly wouldn't say that I bully my horse with the use of the parelli method - if I bullied him he would soon let me know I can assure you! I give him choice and respect to have a 'conversation' with me.
Its a debate as is religion...
I do agree with the sentiment Tinypony I really do, perhaps I view parelli in a slightly more optimistic way trying to get a phase 1 move and never having to go to phase 4? (especially on a back up) but that is not to say in the right circumstances I wouldn't condone the use of it such as horse...
As previously mentioned I did a search for a pink halter and came across this post I replied without realising it was 36 pages long.... I have read quite a bit of this now but not all and as previous I have said I am sorry for jumping in with two feet without realising that it was 36 pages...
I agree fat pig it is a mind-set last night I was helping with an un-handled wild brood mare - direct line thinking was not going to work she was terrified but using body language and empathy did ... I know how long parelli as a method takes and it takes a great deal of hard work time patience...
Sorry I didn't realise it was 36 pages long i just saw the initial comments and posted a reply at the person who was ranting to begin with. (I was searching for something came across pink / parelli and I felt the urge to reply!!!
I have used the method on my 8 year old since he was a foal...
Why blame it on the horse - why blame it on Parelli - get over yourself have you ever thought it could have been YOU that was the problem!
FGS the Parelli method is just fine if it is taught correctly as is every other method.... but everything is down to interpretation and rather than MOANING...
Oh, and remember hard feed is all well and good but horses are trickle feeders and need to be munching 22 hours out of 24! They need the fibre of constant hay / haylage / grass to keep their stomaches working and for the constant siliva that they produce not to cause gastic issues..... they are...
For the elderly horses surely they would be better with haylage? I know it must be upsetting being reported, but it does sound like this person has the horses best interests at heart. I would be upset as well, but to be honest, I would rather make sure my horses had a large bale of haylage to...
I hate laminitis too!!! I walked Sam around the menage twice last night and in the two laps the snow had compacted in his feet ... I have to be very careful, but could you imagine that in their feet all day walking on it not only is the snow rock hard but you cannot get the snow out (especially...
Thank you for the suggestions :)
I don't have a garage so I have no where to do it at home i live in a mid terrace with no access from the back etc as it backs onto another house... AAnd, I have just moved yards been there 3 weeks - no actual drains to tip out the hay water but there is a...
