    Turning 4 this year?

Our rising 4 year old was backed in the autumn last year, walk, trot and small canter in the arena, a couple of hacks and then turned away for 3 months. Now back in work - maybe 3 or 4 times a week, mainly hacking, but some school work with a few jumps. He is loving his work. He won’t do a...

    Gift idea

Can anyone give me an idea of what to buy a friend and her teenage daughter (14yrs) as a gift after their old pony crossed the rainbow bridge today. I don’t want to go overboard with a gift as although a friend there are not close (if you you know what I mean). TIA

    Peroneus Tertius tear - prognosis?

I had a mare who had this injury back in 1999 😳. Absolute strict box rest, I think it was 4months, then very very limited turn out in a small pen before gradually turning out in field. We did put her in foal (AI) and when she was rescanned by Vet School they were amazed at the recovery. She had...

Battery Operated GBS Tracker Recommendations for New Trailer

Airtag - battery lasts about a year. It will show you where your trailer is at any point. I have one on my e-bike and I can check on it where ever I happen to be. Just make sure you hide it somewhere!

    Soaking hay

I use half a 45gallon blue bin, I've put a water butt drain in the side just above the bottom, drilled 4 holes to accommodate string handles (good old baler twine). I fill the haynet, put it into the bin, and either a) put the tie up string from the string handles, or b) use two small...

'Horse whisperers' - are they ethical?

Sold a horse and new owner had a horse communicator to him - apparently horse said he missed the baby grey horse. this puzzled us as we didn't have a grey horse, however our bay foal turned out grey (despite the vet assuring us that he wouldn't!). Call me sceptical, but maybe there was...

    Losing shoes

I don't think they would be allowed. My understanding of all the various rules is that "traditional" shoes only are allowed.

    Losing shoes

We have a lovely working hunter who was due to contest HOYS classes this year. Unfortunately his feet have become very brittle, and he's losing shoes within two weeks of being shod this summer. We have a great farrier, but we are all becoming very frustrated at this. Horse is being fed “Happy...

    Saying goodbye is so hard

So sorry - it really hurts! My daughter lost her lovely old boy on Christmas day, and then her new one last week. To say she's in bits is an understatement - new one qualified for HOYS and she was super excited for the future with him. I have no idea how anyone can get through the pain of...

    Turnout after food abscess

I thought about a hoof boot, but as the mud is over fetlock deep in th gateway it would just fill with mud when she’s turned out and she would have to stand in the mud filled boot all day in the field. Seems like a no win solution🤔 Farrier due in 10 days, so might just have to leave it until...

    Turnout after food abscess

My retired mare, who is barefoot behind, has an abscess in her hind hoof which has been opened by farrier and is currently on box rest with animalintex etc. it’s draining nicely, but I’m now wondering how/when to turn her out because the fields are so wet and the gateway is over fetlock deep in...

    Car sickness

My Jack Russell puppy (now 7 months) can manage about 1/2 hour before she’s sick. I really hope she grows out of it because I have several long (5+hours) trips planned in the spring.
