Tongue over bit - bit recommendations?

Maybe try putting the bit up a hole so it is sitting higher in his mouth...when he realises he can't do it he may give up and then you can try putting it down again and see if he still tries. Just a suggestion. But sorry, not too sure about different bits though!

The mare that wouldn't move..with a few photos

[ QUOTE ] thought that might work...... Remember, the stick doesn't have to be a thing of punishment, it is a legitimate aid if it is used properly, as you did. At the end of the day, it only needs to be used softly to back up the leg and better that, than get to the point that your horse...

The mare that wouldn't move..with a few photos

I resorted to using a stick after almost any other way I could think of! I only used it a little and put it down as soon as she was moving forward..I didn't want to end up being reliant on it! Thank you!

So back to riding her normally but she does get moments when she decides to stop but I think she's starting to learn that she can't get away with...

I'll deffinately get her checked over, including her saddle. And emma69, I did try riding on the lunge and that made no difference either and I also talk to her all the tie, using the sae voice aids as I do when just lunging her. When she didn't move I sat on her for quite a while so she...

Recently my 4yo has refused to move when I get on her. Not even a few steps in walk. Normally when I first get on she fidgets a bit and tosses her head around but once walking around she settles really nicely. Also when I first get on her she is normally quite sensetive to leg and moves forward...

I would really like to know what you would do in this situation. I am 16 and have just done my GCSEs (got the results today, 6A*s and 4As so I was pretty ). I have a 4yo mare who I have been backing. She seems to be coming on well but as you all know it is a slow process. I started quite late...
