    Trotting on the road

There are a lot of ways for horses to lame themselves in the wild (fighting would be one of them). I saw a pretty lame Przewalski stallion in Mongolia –*could have been from running over relatively rocky upland or a slip on grass or fighting or... Generally adult horses are too big to be eaten...

    New Year's Honours List

Not true... 'Almost three-quarters (74%) of the New Year honours are for local community, charity or voluntary work by the “ordinary people doing extraordinary things” highlighted in the Queen’s Christmas broadcast.'...

    New Year's Honours List

Yep, this is correct. Lots of the coverage focuses on celebs because we'll all click on it when we won't click on the other stories!

Good sharer like gold dust, had enough

I'd be a bit worried if someone had gone to equine college and didn't know how to muck out/couldn't be arsed to do it properly.

The King George on Boxing Day.

I was going to ask why there were so few runners in the big races. Pretty empty fields!

You should soak his hay in pig oil for twelve hours.

Three horses killed, possibly poisoned, in Great Shelford, Cambs

Maybe it took a while to realise that they were being deliberately attacked and it wasn't something else?

Three horses killed, possibly poisoned, in Great Shelford, Cambs

A challenging horse....Nearly killed me! Second opinion?

He sounds like he needs careful handling and retraining from a sensitive professional who looks after him fulltime. Others say it's safest not to ride him but you still probably need to get him in from the field even if you're not exercising him. My only random tip for dealing with horses that...

Mongolian dzud. -50°C. Spare a thought for the horses.

The knock-on social/economic effects from 2010 were pretty dire and still on-going. Am thinking of the Mongolians and also the Przewalski projects there, especially the Gobi-based ones.

Dissertation survey: Social housing of horses

I thought social housing was something like the barns in this point-to-point yard: http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/features/horses-loose-barns-lucky-onions-secrets-behind-champions-yard-605275

What do you define as a big spook?

    Unscheduled airs above ground.

Irish horses Newtown- Words fail me...

I've seen some happy looking domestic zebras (someone in the US was showjumping one recently. https://youtu.be/hhlOkEpvFgQ ) and also some tetchy, miserable-looking ones. I'm guessing that as with horses, their demeanour says plenty about their trainer, although horses probably put up with a lot...

Well written horsey books of the memoirey/chatty sort...

Wild Horse Diaries by Lizzie Spender. All about taming a Brumby. Fair Girls and Grey Horses – memoir by the Pullein-Thompson sisters. Dark Horses and Black Beauties by Melissa Holbrooke-Pierson. Fox in the Cupboard gets a vote from me too. Talking of Horses by Monica Dickens.
