I've also never had to deal with it but I heard castor oil. Don't know if it works, though. Good luck. :)

I've not read the whole thread but here's my two cents. First - your horses can't be happy with feet looking the way they do. If I were you I'd get a qualified barefoot trimmer out, adjust diet to suit and take it from there. Diet really is crucial. It will take time but hopefully all will work...
