    Husky/Akita/Malamute/Northern Inuit

I have shared, and I have a lot of 'husky' friends. Not good :-(

Dog boots, in what circumstances would you have then on your dog

Yes we sometimes use them on our Siberian Huskies. Up here even our better surfaces for training and at races can be quite abrasive. Usually it's if a dog has worn down a nail to the quick, rarely it's a pad abrasion. We have used our sled dog boots on our collie for a pad abrasion though...

    Rug a clipped horse?

I clipped mine 2 weeks ago. I took his whole neck off, to hell with standard patterns, that's where he sweats so that's what I clipped. He remains rugless unless it's forecast continuous heavy rain in which case a lightweight rug and no more. I'm in North Scotland and horse is a 16.2hh ISH...

Overdue Endurance report: the Spooky Pony tries an 80k!

I still say we were right according to the map! I've done loads of hillwalking, including DofE Gold, I know how to read a map, and we followed the map. Ach well, these things happen. Glad to hear Benji is well. Tommy is the same, pulling my arms out big time. My Mum said that solo rider...

Vaccinate or not vaccinate? Shetland ponies.

I genuinely do not understand why anyone wouldn't vaccinate their horse against tetanus. Many years ago as a child we lived in a cottage overlooking a big field where 4 horses were kept. We vaguely knew the owners from me being horse mad and always going to speak to them. Anyway, one day, my...

    pet passports

Have you tried looking at contacting airlines directly? This will massively reduce the costs but not all airlines will allow it (many, but not all, insist on using agents). Far more likely to be allowed into Cyprus, it's the flying into the UK that's usually a major headache and the vast...

    Myler bits???

Some horses love them, some hate them and some are no different in them. If you want to try one definitely hire first! However, if your Horse is happy in his current bit then I wouldn't bother.

Recommend me a topical hoof ointment or don't any of them work?

For the first time in a few years my Horses feet started cracking around the nail holes this summer. My farrier said it might be worth trying a hoof moist so I bought the NAF one and have been applying it religiously every day for the last few weeks. It has definitely helped a lot.

Recommend me a tack conditioner - have tried so many!

For bridles Ko-Cho-Line. For saddles Abbey 1982 saddle food. I do endurance and use leather tack, it gets absolutely hammered. I've tried most products out there and these are by far the best. Everything else went in the bin.

    Comfort or Micklem bridle?

Personally I'd go down the made to measure comfort bridle route. I did try a Micklem and was not impressed at all. For the price I would expect much better quality leather.

Endurance Report: The Spooky Pony Stomps Sixty!

Ah the memories! My contribution to the bad lead up was finding my Horse last week with his head covered in blood (and I mean covered). Turned out to be a nasty graze but it was well clear of any tack and the vet was quite happy with it. I'm glad I went after much dithering - he had a great...

    Who tows with a van?

Yes I sometimes tow with our dog van which is a Mercedes Sprinter 313 MWB. The max tow capacity of it is 2800kg. I really like towing with it though it's not a 4X4 so not great on wet grass! Loads of space to dump all your stuff in as well! The rest of the time I use my Defender. I love my...

Travelling to Europe with a dog..

Pet passport is easy. Microchip, rabies jab (2 if under 12 months), wait 21 days and also treat for tapeworm before re-entry to the UK. See here for full details https://www.gov.uk/pet-travel-information-for-pet-owners. We had all ours done back when titre tests were required. They all passed...
