Horse failed vetting. What would you do?

Difficult... I bought a horse who failed on the lunge, 4/10 lame in trot, 2 stage vetting. Vet said walk away. Was to be a hack but has exceeded expectations and does far more now. Turned about to be a burst abbess. Quite cheap though. I bought another horse that passed with flying colours...

    Micklem without strapping mouth shut

I use mine with the headpiece back to front. Horse just prefers it! Not going to argue with him if that's the way he likes it.....

    Friction with another livery client

    O. P I'm interested in what you did before your mare when you had your gelding- you said he was in the middle stable (I'll call this stable 2) but were asked to move down a stable, to 3, when you got your mare? Stable 1 occupied by the difficult liverys pony Stable 3 by your mare. So now...

Shortening a long thick mane without pulling

My mare had mane down to her knees :O! But was going showing and had to look correct so it had to be shortened. Personally hate pulling - ripping hair from roots does hurt, and my horses will tell you! When i tidy makes to the correct length I put it all on the opposite side it normally lies...

    A tail of 2 halves

She had pinworm when she came to us and was treated! She took chunks of her tail out when she did that! Ripped it out in places :( This is more butt cheek itching and upper leg above hocks - tail just gets in the way and it's quite brittle tail :/. Thanks for the suggestions - can probably put...

    A tail of 2 halves

My Clydesdale mare has a lovely full tail....on the bottom 1/2! :(. She has through indirect itching of bottom cheeks rubbed away the top part of her tail so it resembles the biggest bog brush you have ever seen! She's the most itch-est horse ive ever met and loves a really hard scratch...

    Equine digestive issues

I've had to carefully balance magnesium as to little/to much she is like a ticking time bomb ready to explode. She's a very sensitive wb and this has been a long process to get it right. Yes agrobs have to much magnesium - only discovered this once I'd bought stuff from them. I would say the...

    Equine digestive issues

The general blood test came back on the low end of the scale all round on everything tested - though the vets weren't overall concerned. I had a Vit E test done - also low - once again vets unconcered as horse is stable and only goes out during day. To me this however shows she isnt absorbing...

    Equine digestive issues

Thank you for your replies. Feed wise she is on the equifeast diet as she can not have - Alf-a molasses/sugar anything with much magnesium in. A lot of cereals I haven't found a suitable chaff so cut up my own hay to chaff size and mix that with her feed. Sadly grass cubes are either high in...

    Equine digestive issues

I am hoping some one may be able to give me an idea of what I could aim to try next. Back ground story. I have for about a year now struggled to put condition/muscle/top Line on my horse. She is by no means an RSPCA case - coverage over the ribs but not fat.My vet is involved and has been...

Any suggestions on finding bigger bits?

Bomber bits will make them bigger, I got a 7" made! Think they will go up to 185mm. I found though that once I got the right mouth piece - the happy tongue style - I could actually reduce the mouth piece size by an inch as her tongue had room and wasn't bulging into her lips creating a false...

Failing to find a freelancer to teach at my Riding School?

Well this is an eye opening post! I work as head instructor on saturdays for a charity and only charge £10/hour freelance. I have total responsibility for all other instructors /helpers, horses and riders! I have my bhs ptt and ukcc2. Worked for the charity for a while now and worked my way...

Does anyone not use banks in their stable?

I don't use banks! With 4 big horses turning around in stables/lying down they wouldn't survive the night. Horses just get a thick layer of flat shavings. Much easier to muck out and less wasted!

Use of flash, drop and grackle nosebands in dressage

I have a horse who dislikes a cavesson but goes brilliantly in a Micklem. I'm yet to discover if it's: A. Due to the drop noseband B. The short bit attachments which gives good stability to the bit . C. That it takes pressure off the facial nerves. I'm working my way through the different...
