Has a horse ever helped you..

Nothing so dramatic for me, for my daughters eventer saved her life. She was competing at a ONu18 at Portman about 3 years ago and had done a great dressage test, had a pole and was on the xc course. Her mare is an excellent xc horse and very reliable, and in the 3 years previously she had...

Are your cobs in or out?

Out 24/7, coming in for a snooze about twice a week. Nearly 22 years old, totally naked, but unclipped and very furry, and ridden twice a week. Was diagnosed with arthritis in July, been treated with tildren and steroid injections, on synequin and is loving life! I have a very happy little...

Competing at a lower level to 'warm up' - rant!

Well, what an interesting thread this is. Firstly, I for one dont care a dam about who does what in what class. Life has taught me there is always somebody better than me in every activity in life, I just have to work harder to make myself better, nobody is going to do it for me. I am...

How many of you compete and work weekends?

I am reading this thread with interest as my daughter works every other weekend, as do I. We manage by her competing on Sundays and some evenings. When I buy the new pony, I hope to be back out competing as well, well at a very low level, and we will just have to carry on and keep to Sundays...

How long does it take to bond with a horse?

I dont think there is any really definitive answer to that one, and agree with everyone else on that one. It took me 18 months to really bond with my horse and I can even remember the day it happened, and always will keep that day in my memories. My daughter thinks it took her nearer to 2...

Buying my second horse - any advice for preparing for it please

I've owned my old boy since he was 11 and he's now nearly 22. We've had loads of fun, and for a horse I bought purely to be a happy hacker he has gone hunting, gone on holiday with me several times, we've won frillies in cob classes at local shows and had some tidy scores at unaff dressage...

    RIP Wiz

Really sorry for your loss, but you put his welfare before anything else and did the right thing. My daughters horse has sweet itch and although its managed well, its horrible. HHO hugs.

    Badminton unaffiliated dressage

Badminton unaff is a lovely day out. My daughter has been several times and competed in the Pony Club classes, which are very, very competitive. Its a really nice day and if you enjoy star spotting, you will love this as we have seen all the big names there with their young dressage horses...

Questions for if you've ever bought a "ready made" horse...

I am reading this thread with interest as I am planning to buy something similar next year. I am going to retire my 21 year old some time next year and really do want to do some more competitive riding on something safe and generous (like my old boy), but with more buttons to enable me to do...

Which brand of rugs for a cob?

I have always bought Weatherbeeta for my cob. They fit his shoulders, broad chest and big bum a treat. He is 14.3hh and fits nicely in a 6 foot. Not cheap, but they have lasted so well.

I'm writing my will...what to do with horse

How sensible of you to do this. Its amazing how many people dont bother to make plans for what happens after their death because they think its morbid. I think its a very loving thing to do for your family and friends. Both myself and OH made our respective wills a few years ago before I had...

Full Livery - bring in, am I being unreasonable?

OP, as others have said, you are the customer and although its sometimes a cringe making statement, the customer is always right. Speak to your YO as soon as you are able to. That yard manager should not be rude to you, or make you feel uncomfortable. She or he should be professional enough to...

    Where has everyone gone?

Oh blimey, what started as a genuine question has degenerated yet again into bitching. I used to really enjoy this forum and there were lots of knowledgeable riders on here who helped my daughter;s eventing trials and tribulations out a treat. I have confined my activities purely to TR and...
