How many of you deal with horses alone

I keep mine on a good, secure livery yard off a main road but mon, weds & fri I am usually there on my own, in the dark with a very highly strung Andalusian. I take every precaution I can but my main thing is letting my boyfriend know that if he doesn't hear from me by 8pm call me (I am down the...

Hi Viz....which colour stands out best?

I think it depends what you ride on most. On the roads, yellow stands out by far. In countryside environments orange. But I'm old school and go with yellow every time.

    Potential sharer dilemma...

Sounds promising to be honest. Someone has to give her a chance. If it wasn't for the lady that I had my first share with as a real novice (basic walk, trot, canter & pole work and tacking up etc) I'd never have learnt so much about what's it's like actually owning one. I agree with Maesto...

(Not so) Tall boots. I give up! *rant*

Don't know how to edit so.....Just ordered the Mark Todd Leather Field boot in a short wide size 4 (got them for £80 online by the way!). Fingers crossed!

(Not so) Tall boots. I give up! *rant*

Yes sure they are the correct measurements. I must be a very odd shape really as I'm only a 10 dress size. I will look at the ones you've listed more carefully. I was eyeing up Mark Todd boots before. And I love Ariat boots, like you I never thought the long ones would fit me! Thanks for the...

Riding in shorts and other inappropriate kit...

I wouldn't dare ride in anything less than maybe leggings, short boots and a tank top or linen shirt! I see the young girls in my area in the UK wearing tiny little sports bras and shorts, I think it makes them look, ermm how to say it in a P.C way? "common"!? :p Saying that, this is normal...

Does any one else find 'no time wasters' really put them off

Oh jeez, yes! I have sold a couple of horses and bought. Some people will happily take on whatever, pass over the cash and get on with it quite nicely. When looking I needed to be specific due to a very serious back problem I have. Ended getting on a lovely Arab X that reared when I asked it not...

(Not so) Tall boots. I give up! *rant*

Wow, thanks all of you so much. I was getting irrationally irate over such a silly thing! Yes unfortunately. By about 2 inches :/ It seems most "short" cut boots are 41cm/16". annagain, you might be on to something with the heel lift! I am at my wits end. The only tall boots I have that fit...

(Not so) Tall boots. I give up! *rant*

Right so sorry to add yet another "what tall boot" thread onto this forum BUT, holy cow I am honestly at my wits end. So I came to the conclusion that I will have to suck up my need for constantly being 'casual & comfy' around horses and will buy some nice tall boots for my near-future dressage...

    Near miss out hacking :(

Good god, I'm so sorry to hear this! What a horrid experience. I think I'd be shaking too. My SO is a driving instructor and is shocked at some of the attitudes of other instructors about horses/cyclists etc on the roads. I think the problem is people don't see horses as animals when on the...

    Hot Weather Riding Gear

I used to live in Barbados and Spain so am used to riding in 30-40 degree heat. I used to ride in cream coloured jods & 'paddock' boots I liked Ariat ones). Great for if you need to hop off and it's dusty as hell! Of course the boots are still warm but nothing like wearing normal boots. I also...

Bullying on yards - any experiences?

I have never been bullied at a livery yard but have had terrible bullying when at agricultural college here. Apparently being a nervous rider means you are a novice rider (I was nervous because 2 years prior I broke my back in an eventing accident). They made my life hell for a year until I left...

    Horse personalities

Really!? My boy has terrible feet! I'm hoping to improve this once he is here in the UK and I can get him on a proper training and farrier regime. If you have any tips, please throw them my way!

    Horse personalities

I have ridden some horses that I didn't really feel anything for. We just trained together. I still cared about their well being of course, I just hopped on and got on with things. That didn't last very long. I, personally need to feel a bond with my horse. I want them to WANT to spend time...
