    smartphone accidents in the yard...

Not yard based but riding based. My friend and I trailered the horses to a nearby country park for a hack one sunny day I had an i phone 5c 2 months old which I was never keen on because it didn't fit in my jodphurs pocket. Anyway we got back to the trailer after a lovely hack, had a packet of...

Reversing the trailer - why cant I do it first time!!

The only advice I can give is practice and take your time. I used to really struggle but this is my 3rd year regularly driving a trailer and I recently reversed my trailer from one side of the close I live in with cars parked both sides onto my very narrow very awkward drive in one go! My...

Surprisingly quiet! What am I doing wrong...re livery yard.

Perhaps you could offer assisted DIY livery which includes feeding and then bring in or turn out at one end of the day? My yard offers this as a minimum and they charge about £12 more a week than the standard DIY round here.

    Hug your horse ...

So sorry to hear this big hugs to you I can't imagine how you must be feeling :( I gave my boy lots of hugs today as he has a big cut over his eye and he was a very good boy when I cleaned it up xx

Anyone have a really sensitive horse ? Cracked Tessy at last !

My horse is exactly like this. He is absolutely brilliant to hack and as long as I am confident he will go past pretty much everything even when another horse refuses to albeit sometimes quite quickly! However on the ground he can be very jumpy, not to lead he is perfect then, but when he is...

What Did Everyone Do At The Yard Today?

My horse had some treatment on his back yesterday so needed the day off so I decided it was the perfect time to try and desensitise him to the clippers after his last clip cost me £75 due to him having to be sedated and its already growing back! So spent 10 minutes with him pretending they were...

Effective and affordable treatment for mild stiffness.

I tried suppleaze gold after seeing people really rated it on here but it wasn't as effective as boswelia as signs of stiffness started to reappear .

    'Gelling' With Your New Horse

9 months into owning my current horse I would have said I gelled with him pretty quickly definitely within 3 months. However at 10 months we had quite a blip that made me question whether I really knew him. I have now had him for 2 years and I would say that from 18 months in that I really...

Effective and affordable treatment for mild stiffness.

I use boswellia for my boy too he showed signs of slight stiffness in his hock at 14 he has been on boswellia for a year now and the maintenance dose seems to keep him just right (touch wood). Personally I wouldn't put him on danilon/ bute for mild stiffness unless herbal treatments didn 'to...

    Recommend me a 4x4

I have a shogun (05 plate so before the hike in tax) and it is a brilliant towing vehicle and not at all tacky and cheap looking inside in fact that is one of the reasons I discounted a sorrento

Canter for a Cure - Who went?

I went with my friend who is myloubylou on here. It was my first sponsored ride and as I have very dodgy confidence I was sick with nerves in the morning! But it was a brilliant day both our horses were extremely well behaved. It was very hot but the lovely little boy at the farm about two...

Training livery hasn't gone to plan....

I have no experience of this kind of service but to me it sounds like the rider has been enjoying riding your horse too much to let you ride him instead of them! Probably completely off the mark just my initial reaction. Agree with those who say try and squeeze in as many lessons as you can in...

    Going alone issues!

Oldie48's advice is great. I have had 2 nappy horses in my life. The first would rear if you put pressure on him so I did as oldies daughter did with the second horse just sat there didn't let him turn, go backwards until he went forward. The first time took 35 minutes waiting but he never did...

Share your weekend achievements - large or small

I did my first ever cross country jumps! My friend and I went to a local uk chasers course for a nice hack and some jumping if there was anything small and inviting and we ended up jumping 5 jumps and my last one was a fairly substantial log and it felt like we were flying over it I loved it :)...
