First time pregnant mare owner - numpty feed advice please

Do you think it's definitely the feed? or have you changed anything else that could lead to the temprement change? My TB mare has been on D&H M&Y for over a year now (just about to wean) and I never noticed a change. Sorry this probably isn't a great help as the D&H has worked brilliantly for me...

Show names that you have made up for your horses!

My colt is called Charlie as his stable name - took me 3 weeks to decide on a name, spent so long trying to work out what suits him and only Charlie did! Show name Silverstone Shooting Star - I chose this for quite a few reasons, his Mum Silver Belle (Juno - didnt name her but LOVE both...

Do you hold your horse when the farrier visits?

Tie Up. but am always around (usually comforting naughty foal who doesnt like Mummy on other side of stable wall) - means you can multitask! If I just had my mare chances are my farrier would be happy to get her out and get on with it without me chatting in his ear! Lol. Saying that though...

Should a farrier hit a horse?

No way! not unless the horse is being completley unruly and that he's being naughty due to something other than fear of the farrier. My 7 month colt has needed the farrier since day 1 really as he had a upright foot (All looking good now after some excellent farriery) and foal is a idiot each...

Am in almost exactly the same position as you Ladylina83. Havent weaned my boy yet though as only have to fillies to do so (was hoping another little colt may have been magiced out of thin air) so need him castrated first anyway. But yes its getting a bit snug in the stable and i doubt my poor...

OK to castrate at 6 months??

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with having their colts cut early. My boy is turning into a right handful, he's aggressive in certain situations and really does not care what his punishment is when he's been naughty, he just looks at me as if to 'you done now mum?'. I think part...

    Unruly/bad mannered foal?

Im in a very similar situation! Mines an 'only foal' with a first time doting mum! Mine little darling doesnt sound quite as naughty (YET) so I may have to try the plastic bag trick. Just handle him as much as possible, as thats helped mine heaps, he needed a bit of play time! But on the down...
