Thanks for that cragrat. I have been thinking about getting out a foot trimmer to give me some more specialist advice. I've got a couple of names, but like anything everyone thinks their trimmer is best....
Ok have uploaded photos to my user name, as not sure how to get them on here, hopefully you can access them, otherwise let me know, pictures are 7 weeks barefoot after a slight trim, you can see the end of rolled heels from the shoeing she had.
Ah ok thanks Lucy that's really interesting and although willing, information that my farrier is unable to supply, re custom fitting pads etc.
Will try to post photos, but never have before, so bear with me....
Hi Guys, I've recently taken my event horse barefoot for the winter, as she has flat pedal bones and the long heels/short toes required for this weren't good for her hooves in the long term.
The hope was I would stimulate her digital cushion, which would improve her pedal bone angle.
We...
That's good to hear h_a_c hopefully this stage won't last too long. I've started leading her back over the lawn instead, hopefully my other half won't notice, he's a bit precious about his lawn... ;)
That's a good idea, will get some tea tree. Feeling a bit bad for her with the footyness, luckily I just have a 100 yards of hardcore drive to lead her over to go out hacking, the riding itself is fine, but she's def feeling it more than she did..... :-/
Yes I've been using the end of a pen knife, even thought of taking it with me out on hacks, but thought perhaps that was getting a bit extreme.....
Yup £160 on hoof boots down the drain..... :-/
I'm hoping as she's very slowly coming back into work after a minor injury her feet will keep up with...
Hi, I have noticed the white line's tendencies to attract bits of grit, I dug one bit out, which left a small hole and now I have to watch it really closely as other bits seem to get in really easily.
Just as cptrayes said, she is 4 weeks into having her shoes off and has now become quite...
I have had this problem as well, used lots of bit butter, a plastic straight bar bit at home, or a hackamore. Dynamic single link eggbutt for dressage and then a rubber covered pelham for sj and xc. Problem now gone.... :)
Thanks nikkimariet, but it took a while, but I'm listening to her now rather than the vets, but TBF I did try to do it a year ago, but was persuaded otherwise... All credit to my farrier who agreed it was the right thing to do when plenty of people said otherwise.
Sorry ester wasn't trying to...
I was recommended some equine fusion performance boots, with some pads to put in if needed. I know someone who's just come back from Rockley, she was talking about enough road work to self trim and I know they try not to use hoof boots, but I guess they're not under any pressure with the amount...
I've just gone through this to compete at FEI level for eventing, I'm Dutch, but have lived in the UK for most of my life, it was complicated and took a while, but in the end it was agreed that my entries would be administered by BE, think I would still be shown as Dutch, I was at the 1* I...
