Do you NEED a horse to keep you sane?

Definitely! When i'm home i spend every day at the yard with my horse and when i'm at uni i miss it so badly, always paying to get a train home! Horses consume you, they're a pet, they're a hobby, they're a sport.. they involve training AND you involve training in order to do well.. so no time...

Intermittent lameness.. hock injections etc. Suggestions?!

UPDATE; Horse is sound! 4 weeks after the hock injections and 2 weeks after he was shod behind i lunged him and he was sound. The vet came out to assess him a few days later and he was sound to lunge, then i rode him in walk and trot and still sound! So vets given us the all clear to bring him...

    SHOWING Q; Potentially silly question!

So I'm procrastinating at the moment, looking up showing tips for the summer and was looking at supreme products how to guides. When doing a horses 'makeup' i saw a lot of bay horses out this summer who had used dark makeup around the eyes (often done very un-subtly! :p) which leads onto my...

Intermittent lameness.. hock injections etc. Suggestions?!

Been phoned today (i'm back at uni and the yard manager is looking after him) and she rode him for the first time since the hock injections and was like a crazy thing to ride to the point she had to plant him in a hedge (this is very unlike him, even after rest). Still unlevel but she can't tell...

Intermittent lameness.. hock injections etc. Suggestions?!

The original plan was to do hind leg nerve blocks before xrays, but with the lameness being so intermittent/only an unlevelness the vet didn't think his lameness was severe enough for a nerve block to show a change. Sespensory is a possibility that has been suggested seen as the xrays showed...

Intermittent lameness.. hock injections etc. Suggestions?!

My 11yo horse has been having intermittent lameness. It appears to be his left hind, however changes between both hinds and occasionally the left fore. Sometimes he moves lovely, the next minute he is unlevel, then fine again. He is also avoiding flexing on bends (we assume to keep some weight...

Paint on horses.. What do you think?

I was recently at a show and saw a lady spraying her greys legs. They suddenly went from a yellowy colour to spotless white. When i looked at what she was using it was stock spray (for marking sheep!) Has anyone else ever seen/done/heard of this before? This was a new one for me. Surely this...

    Towing laws.. HELP!

I'm looking to hire a trailer for a day from a transport company. It's only an ifor williams 506/511, but i'm confused to whether or not we'd have permission to legally tow it? due to new laws being very confusing. The person driving passed their Category B licence about 20 years ago, is this...

    Boots for barefoot horse?

Originally posted this on the tack room, then realized it was more suited to this forum! Just wondering if anyone has used/uses boots, rather than has their horse shod? And what are your opinions on them. Before anyone says 'Why don't you just get your horse shod if he can't be barefoot'...

    Horse boots for barefoot horse?

Just wondering if anyone has used/uses boots, rather than has their horse shod? And what are your opinions on them. Before anyone says 'Why don't you just get your horse shod if he can't be barefoot', i welcome you to come and try, but currently farrier's won't! due to him being a little...

Lame barefoot horse... We're do we go from here?

Infact, i've been told to possibly try boots (as he's currently too nervous to be shod!) Has anyone had any experience with these? Will create a thread about it, but may aswell as whilst here! xo

Lame barefoot horse... We're do we go from here?

No, not offended! :) It's always good to hear other people's opinions/advice. I've been advised to stick to the softer ground until his feet have a chance to harden up again. Quite a few barefoot horses at the yard are having this issue at the moment as the fields have gotten so wet. Obviously...

Lame barefoot horse... We're do we go from here?

Sounds like what my horse is like at the moment, however the fact your vets come out and said they want to do tests may suggest not? Did the vet say anything specific? Have you tried running him on soft ground? If i run mine up in the yard he is very short in his stride, however if i do it...
