Elf is a lazy toad at times - she comes across as buzzy and at times hot, but I've discovered recently that this is actually a diversion tactic to fool me into sitting quietly and not putting my leg on etc.
Actually when she comes out hot, she also tends to sit just a little behind my leg...
I manage it.
I used to have a little 3.5T but I sold it when I lost my old horse/bought a youngster as it was an older lorry and with a young horse I wasn't going to be going anywhere regularly for quite some time, I decided that by the time I did need it, then it would be older than...
I think the area you are in has a lot of bearing on this, too. I grew up in the midlands on well draining, sandy soil and horses were out 24/7 and only in at night from mid-end October through to the end of march - with true all day grazing.
I'd literally never heard of the concept of...
Now, not unless it was a structured programme of them training the horse and then lessons for me - with the aim of progressing the horse and teaching me alongside.
Even then I'm not sure as I like to do things myself with the help of a trainer.
But, I did get a professional to back her. She...
Horse has just done her 1st Elementary with good result, so my main aims are around improving the areas needed to get her Area Festival ready at Elementary. She can do a slightly muddled simple change at home, but I'd not ask her to do it in the ring yet so we need to work on that - rein back is...
I had a fantastic day out at Widmer yesterday, the 3.45am alarm clock to get us there for arena walks was well worth it....we came 3rd in the Novice and have qualified for Hartpury
I'm off to Widmer for novice Bronze next Saturday, with my 5yo. First time at a new venue so might be a little exciting!!!
We came a strong 4th place at 1st rounds so I'm madly crossing my fingers we've worked hard enough to improve and do even better this time!!
I can beat that! Took my 4 YO to her first one (my second) last year - she pulled a winning test out the bag, except I halted her a letter too early and dropped us from 1st place to 3rd!!!! We were literally a fraction of a % behind first place so if I'd not done that we'd have won it...
Yes I was in horrendous pain and could feel bones grating! The level of pain that knocks the wind out of you and makes you see white spots!
Was at that level of pain for a couple of months at least
We are very lucky that we have direct access to off-road hacking....well technically it is a road...but a single track farm road! Then we can get to all the bridle tracks without a worry.
She loves long lining.....really marches out!
Mine turned 3 in March....I did lots of long lining and leaning at the start of the year. She was backed in May, enough to walk and trot for a few strides in each direction off the lunge line...and now she will have a couple of months off to finish growing.
If she's ready we will crack on at...
Kick up stink and don't accept them not doing everything they can.
Shoulder/collar bone is one of the few bones I've not broken but (as u know) when I smashed my knee I was out of action for over a year because they wanted to try the 'let nature take its course' approach despite me describing...
I always aimed to arrive 1.5 hours before my time.
That gave me time to unload, set up, groom/tack up/paint feet/do my hair and stock, change into my whites and jacket...go to the loo, run through my test a couple of times....have ten mins down time and then get on for a 30 to 40 min warm up...
