    Penny's foal has arrived!

Penny's foal has arrived! She had a bay colt foal at 2000hrs on 16/06/07. Both are doing really well. Sorry if my signature is too big, I wanted to share some photo's of them with you! The story of how he was born is quite funny, it's all on Penny's blog if you are interested...

    Day 10 in the caravan....

Well tonight is day 10 in the caravan. Having been concerned about Penny foaling really early, she has now gone two days over her due date! ha ha don't you just love them? Penny's field mate Lily had her foal on the 7th last week. It was a bit of a worry for a moment, she delivered a rather...

    I've ordered some calcium strips...

On the advice of my vet and some of you guys on the forum I have ordered some calcium strips. Hopefully they will give me an idea of when Penny is likely to foal. She does seem to have gone off the boil now though, maybe she is going to wait for her due date after all! Has anyone else got...

Waxed up but 22 days early!

Penny is by Paris Lights (Alme) and the foal is by Utopian Oppossition (Fleetwater Oppossition). She was an intermediate eventer before getting an injury in the paddock. I think based on all advice I will stay with her from now on!

Waxed up but 22 days early!

I wonder if the early good weather has anything to do with it??

Waxed up but 22 days early!

Thank you everyone. I think that I will stay with her from now on. The general opinion seems to be that foaling is imminent so on that note I think I might go and bring her in! It's funny you know, I've worked on studs and have handled literally hundreds of mares and foals and foaled quite a...

Caslick op....is it only done for breeding purposes?

I've never heard of it being done other than for breeding, though like AmyMay says she may have been bred from. Have you tried doing some research online as to whether she could have had a foal?

Waxed up but 22 days early!

Becki, I think I will be up with her again tonight then. She hasn't gone off her food at all yet. She has milk down her legs at the moment. Her caslick looks very sore so I hope she has chance to recover from that before she foals! I'm going to plait her tail later to keep it out of the way...

Waxed up but 22 days early!

She is stitched after covering, or in our case after insemmination. It's often done to prevent infection getting in while they are in foal.

Waxed up but 22 days early!

Hi all, Penny has been waxed up for two days and today is running milk. She is not due for another three weeks so this is all happening rather early. The problem with maidens is you just don't know whether this means that she will foal this week, or in three! Her tail muscles have relaxed...

Foal habits - do they grow out of them?

They tend to grow out of that by the time they are 2. I'm soon to be having my first horse from a foal so i'm sure I'll be asking questions before long!

Where do I start if I want to put my Mare in foal...Help....

Unless you really want a youngster then I would stick with competing her alone. You can always put her in foal if she needs to take a year off. It is very expensive to put your mare in foal - I've not got much change out of £4k for putting mine in foal! However I really love working with...
