I browsed your thread and couldnt leave without saying something. I suspect your heart knows the answer. And it is the hardest decision i ever made. I know it is the hardest decision you will.
But it is also the most honourable one. And you are being very brave.
My fell has an old wintec with the widest gullet in. I was sceptical about buying him a saddle as previous owner said he was unridable but got this one at my saddlers suggestion and its fine. And pony was perfectly ridable too! On his terms of course:)
I've an elderly on box rest with a tendon injury at the moment. I just read your thread. You clearly gave your friend a great retirement. But above that you knew when it was time to let go. I think that is the bravest thing any owner can do, knowing when it is time to say goodbye...
Interesting on the cold therapy/icing. Vet said he didnt think it would help and strict box rest was the way to go. I rang him before he went off on hols and he said ok do it ..but don't make him walk to the tap.
Like the ice cups idea. Will try that.
How long do you use the ice cups for...
Thanks for this. I have a joint supplement that I used to use for another of my ponies and MSM seems to be the main ingredient so I have started him on that.
I am beginning to really feel he must be bored. He can see the others in the field. Have left the radio on for him and found a treat...
Great idea. There are lots of nettles growing nearby so I cut some last night and he ate them all this morning. I'll get some more! I'll also googled the rest and see what I can find. Thanks for the suggestion be postive.
Any other ideas out there?
Had vet out this morning for my oldie fell. He was slightly lame earlier in the week but it seemed to wear off. Then yesterday he was very lame and I noticed a swelling so had the vet out first thing this morning. Vet says, after a look, its an inflamed tendon sheath and to rest him on complete...
Quickie question. I have a 14 hh pony, very fine with a short neck and I'm getting concerned about the reins dangling by my feet when I ride. My current reins are cob length but pony reins only seem to be a couple of inches shorter in general.
Anyone any ideas on who makes shorter reins that...
Well got a different vet out as I needed my elderly pony checked for something. This vet looked at pony and heard history and says if it were pin worms the amount of wormer we have given plus all the scrubbing down of stables etc should have shifted it. He said that it was most likely...
Thanks for sugggestion but tail hasn't been washed since we did the Hibiscrub wash about 2 or 3 weeks ago. So that rules that idea out.
I haven't changed anything in his diet either so I don't think it can be a food reaction either. He has hayledge (COPD) and hi fibre cubes with yea-sacc...
I am waiting for vet to call back but I am wondering if anyone has any ideas. Horse is a 19 year old fell.
History: This horse arrived here in July/August as a re-home. Did a worm count which was fine. But had feather mites and lice so he was injected with dectomax and shampooed with an...
