Going rate of pay for groom in Surrey

Hello, Please could you advise on the going rates of pay for a groom in Surrey. All standard duties, mucking out, grooming, poo picking, tacking up etc. Non riding position. Rates of pay for an experienced groom that works to a good standard? Many thanks x

What signs would a pony show if carrying too much weight

Hi all, What signs would a pony show if it was finding the weight it was carrying to be too much? I know all about the ideal 20% rule - that's not what I am asking. This is tricky if horse and rider weight is unknown. Would you for example expect a horse to sweat? If horse did not sweat at...

Is it wrong for a grown woman to ride a 12.3hh welsh A?

I always thought that Shetlands are the strongest equine pound for pound. In fact I'd lay money on it the top 10 strongest equine's pound for pound are all ponies. I personally don't do anything over 14.2hh - I'm a pony squisher (Welsh to be precise) and damn proud! Those that think us adults...

    Welsh D final height?

I'm not too sure about his breeding, but some do mature early. My section D hit 14hh at 20 months also, she was also about 12hh when buying her as a foal. She's now rising 5 and still 14hh - I still live with the hope she's gonna grow some more lol. Others mature late, I think it's just luck...

Neglect and welfare concerns - Not sure what to do ?

Poor sods. There's a field of cobs like this by Heathrow off the A30, been like it a long time and very public so I'm guessing authorities can do nothing about it :(

How much hay do you feed your horses that live out 24/7?

Thanks everyone :) Well from the advice given above and considering I'll have about 2 acres (split in 2 parts for rotation), I'm guessing with 2 decent meals a day, that 1 bale will be enough a day bar the height of winter when I'll probably need 2 bales a day. I can live with this, I'm...

How much hay do you feed your horses that live out 24/7?

I'm moving my horses in a months time to somewhere completely different to what I am used to. I have a 16hh gelding and a 14hh welshie mare, and the 2 of them will live together in their own paddock. The yard provides hay by the bale for about £4. I've only ever used the big round bales before...

    Seems I have unexpected Exclusions?!

I don't insure my 2 for this exact reason. They are both 4 year olds yet my mare had Conjunctivitis, so eyes would be excluded, the went through a fence and cut her back legs in several places which required treatment by the vet, so both back legs would be excluded, had colic as a foal so...

Discovered a lump on my gelding, any ideas what it is?

I've used summer fly cream before to protect wounds to my mares legs, it's very good. I think I've even got half a tub somewhere. So tomorrow I'll give him a thorough inspection, slap some fly cream on and around it and fly spray him, and of course phone the vet! Thanks for your help :D

Discovered a lump on my gelding, any ideas what it is?

Thanks :D My mare has sweetitch so I use a mixture made up of avon skin so soft, neem and citronella oil - will this be ok to use. I've tried all sorts and so far have found the neem oil very effective, and no wonder it totally stinks :( What about the lump it self, I did notice flies...

Discovered a lump on my gelding, any ideas what it is?

I've just been doing a bit of research on sarcoids and yes I too thought it was suitable for banding. I'm not panicking.....yet! If he's got a sarcoid, he's got a sarcoid. I'll just deal with it. If just one and as it's in a place that isn't causing a problem then it may be worth just leaving...

Discovered a lump on my gelding, any ideas what it is?

Hey all, I discovered this lump on my 4 year old gelding tonight. It's on his stomach, about 6 inches forward of his sheath. It is about the size of a 50p, and protrudes from the skin by 7-8mm. It's solid, it's texture is strange, the best way I can describe it is it has the texture of the...

i could cry, he's been sold AGAIN

This is the problem when you sell, you lose all control. I had to sell my coloured cob last year as I was moving back to London from Scotland and I just couldn't bring 3 with me, selling 1 paid for the other 2 to move down with me basically. The woman I sold him to seemed wonderful...

    I'm being dramatic aren't I...(moan)

My daughter had a horse who was very clumsy. We actually found he was lazy and lacked respect on the small jumps. When we put them up, he had to actually jump them (after ploughing through them and clanking his legs). He very quickly realised life was easier if he picked his front feet up, it...
