Mines 12. Had steroids injections but they wore off after 4 months. Turmeric and Synequin didnt help so hes now on one bute a day and much happier. I dont ride him anymore though so couldnt say if it would be the same story..
I had the same problem, Id do my last school before a show two days before, then hack and wash legs once the night before with fairy liquid then do a double rinse with blue shampoo the morning of. Always came out dazzling.
We are pouring as much extra money as we can get away with into high interest savings accounts to afford a house with land to buy said 15hh allrounder as well as keep the retired one in the life to which he has become accustomed to 😂 or at least I am!
I only consider keeping this routine due to previous reactions to living out, and in all the yards we have been to over our 9 years together I've never seen him lie down as much in the stable as I do now which I can only think indicates he is comfortable and relaxed
My lad is very low in the pecking order in any herd, he is currently in a group of 3, they all go out and come in at the same time and can see eachother and another 6 on the yard at night. The first time he did his tendon I tried to turn him away for 2 years and he spent more time getting picked...
As title really, I've recently had to call it a day with my 12 year old (arthritis and tendons), he is still in the same routine just not being ridden, but I don't know how to tell if he enjoys just going out and coming in every day, or if its just what he's used to?
No. I became severely depressed and anxious when my horse had 2 years off to heal. We are on week 6 off for current lameness issue and can already sense those feelings creeping back in even though I go up twice a day, muck out, groom etc.
Mine's 11 so not got any growing left to do, but is a total hat rack and never keeps weight come rain or shine. I'm currently having great success with 1kg (dry) speedibeet, 500g micronised linseed and a couple of handfuls of oats (I soak them in the SB water) which will increase to 800g once in...

This. Also you say he comes in for a bit of hay, is this ad lib and can you put hay out in the field too? I'd change that and drop the workload and see if that helps.
Will definitely keep this in mind thank you, the way it gets much much worse then better and the switching of legs draws me away from abscess as much as I'd like it to be as simple as that, and reading up on the spavins symptoms it does make sense the way back pain is mentioned, he doesn't tend...
Not yet, said the usual rest for a few weeks and if not I'll come back out. I have quite a bit going on for the next couple of weeks so while I'm happy to give him the rest he needs, once I have more free time to take him to the clinic for x-rays etc I definitely will be. Can you explain to me...
