This is the fourth foal i have bred (but my first in 8 years - so i am a little rusty so i apologise in advance for the silly questions).
Mare and foal are stabled at night and out during the day. I introduced an 8 month old weanling a month ago and now both foals team up with each other in...
Sorry to raise an old thread but after 10 long years struggling on clay fields we are now going to put in a Woodchip/All Weather turn out paddock for the horses for the Winter...
The area is exactly 10m x 20m (in a triangle shape) so i had my (what i thought quite cheap) local farmer come...
You can buy horse Boosters that really do work, just like you would give a horse a syringe calmer before a show you can give them a booster. Seems to work wonders on Traditional cobs that need a bit extra
Mare is coming in to season today - i want to send her to stud when she comes in next time round - will it be 21 days from today or shall i send her earlier to the stud just in case?
I would like to know too as she is only a 3yo, she has been assessed by vets, farriers and physios with no joy and have been advised that hopefully she will come right.
She is a lovely girl apart from touching her lower legs.
Thank you seeing the vet next week so thought id ask on here first
I have bought a mare to breed from but unforunately for some reason she will not let anyone touch her from the Knee down. She is a lovely mare apart from that, and can be touched/groomed bathed anywhere else apart from her lower legs.
I have her sedated every 6 weeks to get her feet trimmed...
We wait till the ground is dry and either get our muck man to scoop it up with his grabber when he comes to take our muck away or as mentioned above we set fire to it in the field and burn it, i wouldnt do this yet though i would wait for it to dry out more
I am based in Potters Bar Herts (junction 24 of the M25) and a few of us are looking for a place we can meet up and take our horses to go out for a lovely ride/hack/gallops etc, hopefully within about an hours drive .... any suggestions?
Has anyone any ideas on how i can calm my pony down when he is on the lorry. He loads fine and doesnt hate it but use to really sweat up to the point he was foaming even on small journeys. We now open all the windows and usually travel in a thermatex which helps with him sweating but now just...
We use round bales of wrapped hay or haylage. We take all the wrapping off but leave the wrapping at the bottom (i.e. cut round the edge) so it doesnt soak the water up from the mud, and then put the ring feeder on it - works a treat
Going rate for a muck lorry round here (North London) is £150 - and usually takes about 3 skip fulls. You get charged £150 whether the muck lorry is filled to the brim or not
My only advise i can give you.... form past experience.... Dont take on someone elses problems! If a horse has a fault trust me dont take it on! There are plenty of others out there just as cheap. Dont buy something with problems unless you are prepared to (possibly) have to deal with it for...
People who have horses living out (and will do so all winter) are you rugging yet - if so what weight? Im not as still quite mild but they have really thick coats already - so the wind must be quite cold.
Not sure if to start rugging yet or not?
