What rugs do you consider to be 'essential'

Hi, not heard of these are they widely available?

Getting back to ridden work as foal break

I posted this on the 'new lounge' and someone suggested I post it here also to get advice. Since posting this we have decided to give Frieda the rest she deserves on advice since the posting but am now looking a) what sort of groundwork to do with her to gain trust and bonding as well as...

all Londoners or knowledgable folk a question:-

Stay at the Bexleyheath Marriott hotel. Leave car at hotel car park. Get an 89 bus to blackheath common and walk through Greenwich park from top end where the observatory and time line is. You will also pass a new purpose built equestrian centre specially built for the games on shooters hill...

    Confidence Issues

The only thing i can say about it is to use their negatively towards you to your advantage and prove them wrong. Rise above their own inadequacies. It works. Some people feel they have the right to say things because it somehow makes them feel better. There's always one nasty person to say ten...

OMG my 1st hack in almost 2yrs

One tip for future hacks, as I presume you have been and come back now, is to sing a song in your head or even out loud (may feel silly if people pass by though lol) but it is known to stop your nerves taking over and helps you settle.

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

Thank you for your consistent and sound advice throughout this thread. I have certainly taken your advice on board and realise from this that I had taken the wrong route.

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

You were told by numerous very experienced breeders and horse owners on another forum not to ride for 6-8 weeks at the time it happened and you chose to ignore all that and do it anyway. You say the vet said to ride but why ask experienced owners and breeders if you are going to ignore the...

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

Seems to be sidetacked a little as to who did what and not did what and I was looking for answers, views, opinions on her temperament and why it has changed. I beg to disagree and do take the opinion that professional bodies have a part to play in this, I am not looking for any compensation or...

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

Surely you treat a mare in foal differently to one that isnt in respect of riding and so forth, ie. worming and things like that. If it was stillbirth it could of been because she was treated as if she wasn't in foal. If women are pregnant they are treated differently and I said BVA should...

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

If that is the case surely the 'experienced' bodies that be ie. British Veterinary Association or likewise should make this compulsory to stop all this, people will pay for it. I would have paid for it had the thought been put into my head but when I enquired about the examination they went on...

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

I think the British Veterinary Association has to take some blame here as the vet's internet site said they follow the stand format of pre-purchase examiantions laid down by them. I was grieved myself to think that we could have saved that life, a life is previous and a gift and a simple test...

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

She was left with the foal, standing over it for quite a while, pacing round the filed but always going back to it for poss 4-5 hours and then we led her away and removed it without her seeing. The horses she was with were in another field. We then let her out back to the same field and she...

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

Thank you for your advice - we did question it but thought they are more experienced as it was an equine vet too. Hope we haven't done any long term harm both mentally and physcially for her. I wrote to the pre-purchase vet about this situation and still haven't received a reply as I had put...

Temperament change in Mare after Foaling

Looking back I think I was given extremely poor advice from the start. I rang round various vets explaining that I had never bought a horse before and what is involved in the pre-purchase exam, never believing that they would not be able to tell that a mare is not fat but pregnant! She would...
