Thank you, I didnt put 2 and 2 together as he wasnt cresty at that point :( he is in the fatty paddock now so hopefully crest and footyness should resolve. This is exactly the reason I dont want to shoe as it will mask any indicators!
Im not giving anything at the moment as grass is quite good. Have had to restrict him this week as he has gone slightly cresty. Do you think a supplement would help?
I aim to keep my 4 year old cob barefoot but he has started to get a bit footy over stones since doing a bit of road work.
Does anyone have an suggestion on how to harden his hooves so as I want to avoid putting shoes on. Ive ordered some Kevin bacon hoof and will get some hoof boots if...
Thank you, this is useful. I Just had a look at the original pictures I was sent, it looks as though he was driven in the Liverpool. However, the bit I tried (riding) him in was different. I will try and continue with the myler and see how he goes!
It is definitely in the right place, I wouldn’t want to put it any higher. I am just wondering if he would be happier in a straight bar. I wouldn’t personally choose to use one but they are common in driving so maybe he would feel more comfortable in one.

I have had my 4 year old ride and drive cob for a few weeks now. He is backed but green. I havent ridden him at home yet but have been doing ground work. I have him in a comfort snaffle bit (like the myler) which hes worn twice. He tends to play with the bit in his mouth, not excessively...
I have a new pony coming next week and he comes with nothing. I will be doing lots of ground work to begin with but I will need a saddle at some point, and have been seriously considering going treeless. The barefoot saddles website says they are ideal for horses that are changing shape, which...
My TB also got heated by different feeds and lacked condition when I got him, the feed that worked for us was top spec calm and conditioning cubes and Alfa a oil chaff with a scoop of speedi beet. Once the grass comes you will notice a difference!
I have a 13hh barefoot gelding arriving on 19th April but the place he was going to has fallen through - I am desperately seeking a small yard that offers 24/7 grazing or a shared field in the Bristol area. I am a nurse and cannot muck out everyday due to my hours and it is proving very...
