I would, but same as others, I use gamgee and fleece bandages. I occasionally put them on my mare when shes a bit puffy, and helps her alot, shes fine the next day after having them on the previous night.
One of my horses (the youngster) has a deflated football, treat ball (which I put carrots in) and also I hide carrots around his stable (theres a ledge around the back which he can nosey at, and I wedge bits of carrot in odd places!).
Sometimes I use an old carrot net, put the football inside...
I would suggest putting it in a different field with a companion that has a quiet influence on this horse.
If this isnt an option, and the horse cant be turned out alone (either because you dont have the grazing to do so, or the horse cant be on its own) then perhaps you may have to ask them...
This year our school has frozen and is harder than it has been in the past. We hjave been getting it levelled out at least once a week atm which has helped.
I have just been long-reining mine with the odd burst of trot when the schools a bit softer.
Its not wrong at all. What you do with your horse or pony is entirely up to you whether thats competing, happily hacking about, or just having them for the company. It really doesnt matter.
Just having them is enjoyable enough :D
My youngster isnt keen what so ever on having his pulled, so I just cut it. In a few days you cant tell, and his manes not particularly thick so looks fine!
lol :D
I've backed quite a few youngsters, and my own horses, but the one that stands out is my rising 5 sports horse. I backed him last spring when he turned 4.
I always felt safe with him (even though hes 17hh, athletic and a bit quirky at times!). I knew he would be an amazing ride as he has very...
I give mine an odd week off during winter just because I think it gives them chance to have a wind down and a breather (and means I can go about getting stuff sorted for christmas!!!).
In winter turnout is limited (suppose alot of people are in the same boat with all this rain we have had!)...
I dont mind anyone handling my mare as shes easy, but Im very protective of my youngster. Hes a big lad (17hh), 4 years old, sports horse. He is actually quite a friendly giant, but quirky and can be quite sharp and its taken me a long time to build up a good relationship with him, so I wont...
My youngster is an interesting horse - hes quite quirky (Sport Horse - TBX). He was actually quite easy to back, but I ended up giving him a few weeks off after the initial backing to let him chill out and think about things. After that he was fine and we spent all summer hacking about, its only...
Havent used Masta turnouts before but wouldnt mind getting one, my horse has masta stable rugs and fleeces and they fit him really well, good quality and seem indestructable!
I wintered my mare off last year, and she was alot better for it, plus it meant I could spend time with my youngster. Both of them will be having a few weeks off this winter, maybe longer if they require it, my youngster will most likely be kept in some sort of work as he easily gets bored not...
Luckily we have a show ground which is about 30-45min hack away from our yard on back country lanes, so hacking to a show isnt a problem. Also I didnt have transport at the time, and being honest I dont see it as a problem as it gets your horse warmed up nicely before you do anything and if you...
I wouldnt sell either of mine, no matter how much money someone offered me. They're part of the family and I enjoy having them both, even when theyre driving me mad!
