Ok, we have now discovered this is definitely a compulsive habit and not a physical issue. He will sit on the back of the sofa behind your head and try to lick and pull at your hair. Not sure what I can do to help him. Feliway didn’t seem to make any difference

As a human that suffers from uveitis, I can’t tell you the light intolerance is the worst thing. Anything other than being in a dark room with sunglasses on is painful. So I’d go with the best mask possible in a dark, inside stable during a flare.
