Should i go into racing, what is it like?

I had a senior position with free accommodation, no bills etc and spent a LOT of time socialising too and it was the brilliant, but was never going to be in a position to get a mortgage etc

Should i go into racing, what is it like?

It is one of the hardest jobs I've ever had in terms of hard graft but by far the most fun... If you find the right yard, you don't mind hard work and can take the ups and downs it can be brilliant! Had to give it up to earn a living though!

Dissertation Survey - Horse welfare in competition

I have tried to complete but it will not let me as I did not fill in all five disciplines and levels even though I only compete in one discipline at one level (plus the levels do not really apply to all the disciplines?)

    Welcome to HHO Towing Clinic

On closer inspection it looks exactly like that one, with the windows, handles, shape of door etc (except door is on other side) I also wonder if the unladen weight might be different as when we got it it had nothing inside and we added the partitions when we had it refurbed. Thanks for your...

    Welcome to HHO Towing Clinic

It looks more like this one http://heavycherry.com/machineinfo/thiel/-explorer-2010-trailer-cattle_truck.html It used to have the lift up flap thing above the ramp but we took that off as it didn't lift high enough to load the horses!

    Welcome to HHO Towing Clinic

Hi I'm in the process of buying a 4x4 to tow my trailer and wonder if this combination will work. I am looking at a mitsubishi shogun sport, which I know has less capacity than a shogun but wondered if this would still be safe. The trailer I have is a westfalia and it has two plates so a little...

Best waterproofs (for me and horse!)

Lynh - what weight rug is the hero one? I've seen them online but they don't say how much fill they have? I know they say medium but that rangersfrom 100 to 250, mm- I did spot The jomiluti (sp) ones so glad to hear they are good as don't want to fork out unless they're worth it!

Syringe (wormer) shy horses - any tips?

My auntie has a pony who hates being wormed with a passion and will throw himself at the wall or door rather than be dosed, which obviously could get dangerous. Someone once suggested blindfolding him, so now i just put a jumper over his eyes and he'll swallow first time with no problem at all...

Best waterproofs (for me and horse!)

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm trying to steer away from chaps because I ride and teach and I get a cold backside! Plus I find they always fall down off my waist for some reason. Will have a look at the Zara Phillips ones. Off to look at the rugs, there are so many it's always easier to go...

Best waterproofs (for me and horse!)

So having got soaked once this week already, I am online shopping for waterproofs. First, for me. I am looking for a decent pair of waterproof trousers that will keep me dry all day out in the rain but that will also be suitable for riding. I don't mind spending a bit more for good ones, but...

    Weight gain for tb racehorse

I've had a couple of ex-racers, and find that sometimes if they have too much high energy feed like oats or any kind of cube or mix it gives them more energy and so they tend to run around more in the field or 'stress' it off in the stable. I usually try to feed things that will not overexcite...

    Fitness training on straight gallops

When I used to use a gallop to keep my wb fit he started off by hacking to the gallops, which was about 20 minutes up a long hill, followed by 2 steady canters up a 4 furlong hill (walking back down the gallop in between) and then hacking home. We also had to hack through a river on the way...

    Too honest?

Hi All, I am looking for some advice. I have advertised a horse for sale and because I want to find the most suitable home I have been 100% honest about the horse's history and I wonder if I am putting people off? I have been looking at ads for similar types of horses and they do not give...

ROR Qualifiers (Dressage) - UK Racing horses only

I have the same problem, I have one that raced in France and Spain and one in Ireland and France and only emailed Di last week to check. It is a shame as so many horses come out of racing in Ireland. Maybe we should start up our own show for ex-racers that have raced outside the UK?

    Physio and saddler in berkshire

Thank you both, I will look into both. Have not used an osteo before I don't think. I moved out of the area for a while so just trying to find out who is recommended as it seems some people I used to use are no longer in the area! Any saddlers? I want to get my dressage saddle checked in case...

    Physio and saddler in berkshire

Hi, My horse is feeling tight in his back and is not himself, I'm going to get his teeth/tack/ back checked and already have a good dentist. Can anyone recommend a good physio and saddler in Berkshire? We are towards the maidenhead side of Berkshire and would rather go on a recommendation...

Following on... Gait Analysis... is it worth it, or a con?

Just reread that and sounds very negative, can't edit on (not so) smart phone however I think it can be a very useful tool if used correctly to pick up gait abnormalities and as a normal to compare to at a later date.

Following on... Gait Analysis... is it worth it, or a con?

Having studied biomechanics and gait analysis as part of my degree, I think you have to he careful who you use and what you take from it. Some systems are less accurate than others and in my opinion the person doing the analysis needs to be well qualified for it to be worth it. If I remember...

    Livery Winkfield/maidenhead

I put this in comp riders, but realised it's probably better in here! I'm looking for livery for the winter. DIY/assisted. I've just started a new job and still getting into a new routine so if they would feed and t/o am would be handy. I'm hoping to find a sharer to compete my horse as I...
