Nothing at the moment! The grass is really good and he gets soaked hay at night. He'll start having a balancer once a day but he's quite overweight and fizzy so definitely won't be getting much more than that!
I bought an 11yo cob from from the field last month. He'd been out of work for a year but previously been in a riding school and then owned privately as a riding club horse.
I was told he went sour as a riding school horse and can Buck when he's excited.
Lovely temperament, saw videos of him...
I've had my horse on a bespoke joint and hoof supplement for nearly a month now but haven't noticed a difference. I'm going to keep on with it for now (I know I won't see hoof changes for long while) and hope it starts proving effective, especially for his joints.
I'd struggled with my ex racer for over 2 years. Tried so many different bits, nosebands, lessons, every thing checked etc. A friend lent me a Micklem bridle one day and WOW. It was like magic. Consistent contact, happy, forwards. It was a different horse! Ok so definitely no dressage superstar...
have a TB who is kept at the livery yard where I work (Yard A). The set up is great, all his bills are included in my wage and he's very happy there. However it's limited turnout throughout the winter months so the days he's in I'll be mucking out twice and exercising once I've finished work...
Thank you everyone, some great advice.
I felt very confident this time so was able to relax and didn't get the feeling he was going to do anything stupid. I was just concerned about how he coped. Dripping in sweat after 10 mins was a little worrying. I plan to get him out more and more (trailer...
I took my horse to a sponsored ride yesterday. He had an instant calmer in his feed that morning which I think took the edge off a little bit. He came off the lorry calmly and stood happily. However, once other horses and jumps in sight he starts jogging and sweating. He jogged nearly the entire...
Taking my TB out on Sunday to a fun ride. I'm thinking of giving him an instant calmer just to take the edge off as he can get quite excitable.
I've been recommended the Magic instant syringe or Global Herb sachet.
Interested to know what people think of these? Which is more effective? Or any...
I've been using one step but find that it doesn't actually clean. The leather looks lovely immediately after but an hour later it doesn't look like its been cleaned. Always had good results from belvoir.
I'm a student at Brookes but always lived in Oxford and keep my horse on a yard locally. I'm familiar with a lot of the surrounding yards so happy to give you a few names, and who to avoid!
Not many that offer purely grass livery but a few DIY yards that offer all year turnout.
Thanks for the replies.
Money isn't an issue luckily, its just the time. Well, time wise I could cope with 2 now, I'm just thinking ahead to the winter when I'm out on the yard working- I'm not sure I'll have the energy to ride and muck out 2 after a long, cold day. However, that'll be 4 days a...
By the looks of things summer is over now and I'm dreading winter already!
Last year I had 2 horses. My TB and a warmblood on loan who has since gone home due to lameness, and I've been enjoying spending more time with my TB.
I hadn't planned on another horse until next spring but a lovely...
I ride my TB bitless and bitted. He's happier bitless but works better in a bit. I'd love to do the bitless dressage championships but schooled yesterday and couldn't get him round. It's something I'm working on!
My first attempt is booked for start of October. I have one and a half day's training before the test.
This thread has filled me with dread now as I was confident and thinking it would be fairly straight forward. Doesn't sound like that's the case now!
Looking at getting a single horse trailer as I will only ever be towing one.
My question is, if I tow the HB403 (unladen weight 767kg) carrying my TB (560kg), total of 1327kg. Am I still required to get my B+E licence?
Yes I hack bitless most of the time.
I have an ex racer and will quite happily canter him through fields and be confident I have brakes in a sidepull. I've tried various bits but he takes a hold and has bolted on several occasions bitted.
He schools lovely in a straight bar but for a nice...
