Remember the Little Cigar? Born on the forum (pretty much)

I remember 15th Jan 2009 well... I slept in the car for a week (got off lightly!) waiting for this mare; Who had been bred to THIS stallion (amazeballs, right? ;) ) To produce THIS baby... I then broke photobucket, taking at least a million photos... He would NOT...

The importance of a good Ad photo-

*Waves at anyone who remembers me* Would YOU go and see this horse? (he's mine, btw, I can be as rude about him as I like) I was looking for a sharpish bay mare (bit like PF, if you remember her) to bring on to showjump up to 1.10m, but you know how life works out... I know his breeder v...

Shocking case of violence and abuse in Argentina

Please comment/share as much as possible. This kind of violence and cruelty should NOT go unpunished By Mr Carlos Cordoba (C&P from his post in Chronicle of the Horse) I'm am sorry to post this, and I know it has not even happened in your country, but it is important that we all revolt...

Oddly wearing hooves (unshod) What's going on? also in Vet

Horses (not mine!) have been unshod for about 8 months, and pretty much left to themselves with the odd rasp to tidy up cracks. They live out 24/7, we have had no rain in months, and the ground is v hard, but where they are is pretty much dried grass and dirt. Diet is alfalfa (because there is...

*Tin hat* What would make an unshod horse wear toes down....

FINALLY LC gets his debut and PF her comeback

Last Wednesday I heard about a show at my Old Yard on Sunday and thought I'd give it a crack. The next day my puppy, Juana, became very unwell and I gave it until Friday to make my mind up. Juana perked up a bit, the vet was finally able to give me a more cheerful prognosis, and I rang to get...

Tail guard and travelling rug question

PF and LC both travel fine, except for liking to sit on the back bar in the trailer, which isn't good for their tails. I find tail guards slip down, so has anyone sewn rings onto the guard and a rug and clipped them together to keep the guard up? Would this work? Ideas and suggestions welcome.

    Photos; what's this swelling?

PF has slight swelling on the front of her RF fetlock. It feels firmish, but not bony and hasn't responded to a couple of days of bute. She's sound so I'm not particularly worried but I am intrigued. She's 15, if that helps.

    'Flaking' hooves

Asking for a friend. Horse has recently gone unshod, she's perfectly sound, but what's going on here? I thought maybe an old fungal infection?

    Horse and Hound digital- problems

Anyone else finding it impossible to use? I paid (of course) settled down to read my digital version and... nothing. Just the first page. THEN I thought OK, will download the Zinio reader and watch it like that.... Nope, unable to download. Support were fairly quick to get back to me but all...

And Video. Show report, day 1 (Friday) settling in

Show report- Day 1. Pre show. Day started early with ponies being picked up to be taken to the show ground which is also my former yard. I decided I’d take them a couple of days earlier so that a) I would have less stress to deal with on Sunday, the actual show day and b) LC could see...

Another clipper oil question- Liquid paraffin?

Having read several threads on clippers and clipper oil, several people say that clipper oil is essentially white mineral oil. So.... does this mean you could theoretically use liquid paraffin on your clippers? I'm not trying to be cheap, but I can't get 'branded' clipper oil over here (would...

My Little Cigar, from birth to jumping- LONG!!!

The journey of Little Cigar. In 2007 I decided that I would like to breed a showjumper from PF (pictured below) (I agree that not wearing a hat is idiotic- please feel free to be as critical as you choose :) ) And THIS was the stallion I liked :) His name is Remonta...

LC's first party- An over-detailed, gushy, long-winded non-comp comp report

Little Cigar is growing up!! My little boy did his first jump this week under saddle. And this is it. Please contain your excitement!! ;) Anyhoo, I heard there was a show at my old yard (where LC was born and lived until he was 2. He had his goolies removed there as well!- got photos of...

Quick, and perfectly innocent, question about horse boots...

I'm just curious as to how secure they are on the foot? The only ones I've seen in RL (don't know the brand) look as if they would come off if you trotted. Do people gallop/jump in them? Do they feel 'odd' at first to the horses? As I said... just curious

Sunny Little Cigar and PF pics. Have I mentioned it's sunny??

Took masses of photos of the kids today. Mum helped. It took her a while to get used to the idea of there being a zoom she could use, but luckily my camera is Hi Res and I've got editing software ;) Very VERY hot day today. Just sayin'. Bottoms. LC on the left, PF on the right :) He's also...

    Remember Antifaz?

Was looking through my old Photobucket account and found these photos of Mr Bling himself, Antifaz. Long story cut short is that his owner sold him when I was in the UK. He's doing OK with his new owner, but wasn't he a handsome chap? BTW feel free to be as cross as you like about the eejit...

Would you use/have you ever used a stallion with a sarcoid?

As title. And out of interest, would a stally with a sarcoid still be eligible for licensing? I'm know of one, is all and am curious as to whether sarcoids have been proven (or not) to be hereditary. Thanks :)

    Remember Little Cigar????? LONNNNG

Several years ago HHOers accompanied me on the journey of finding a suitable boyfriend for PF, then through the pregnancy and THEN the birth. At the time it felt an interminable journey and I took an AWFUL lot of photos. A LOT. No, I really did!! So here's a recap (feel free to leave now if...

    Facts; Deal with them

    1. If my horse is naughty he/she gets a smack. That way boundaries are set and the naughty behaviour stops before it becomes a problem. I do NOT beat my horses. If you don't know the difference, then LEARN. 2. I love a horse with a bit of personality, but invading my personal space is absolutely...

Little Cigar today My future Showjumper or possibly (not) UncleJr's eventer. We'll see how things develop. From this; and this; It took AGES to stand him up. This is a behind the scenes shot of me trying to get his attention (before I photoshopped the lunge rein -that was...

Photos. Foal with sores on bottom and mouth

I've never seen anything like this. It's being treated as a wound (as in foal hurt itself on something) but the sores around the mouth make me think it might be something else. Parasites? Another foal is showing similar soreness, though not so bad, right up between her hind legs.

    Anyone used Chandelles Saddlery website??

And are they reliable? Have emailed them 3 times with an enquiry about international postage and I've not had a reply. I can get my stuff posted to someone in the UK, and then onto me, but slack communications get up my nose a bit.

    Bits; NS vs German silver

Okeedokee, have been looking into a new bit for PF. Well, not actually a NEW new bit; I used to ride her in a tom thumb w/lozenge like this; ...but I sold it. Yeh. I can't explain it either as she went v nicely in it. Perhaps I planned to buy another when I was in the UK... ANYhow, I've...

More than one 'change' of summer coat?

Sorry to bring this up in the midst of a British winter, but has anyone had their horse change coats during the summer? PF is back in work, she gets bathed when it's very hot and she gets very sweaty, and chucked out again in blazing sunshine, so her coat has suffered and is basically looking a...

    Incontinence in spayed bitch

I have a 6yo spayed dobermann who lives with my parents in Argentina. She sometimes wets herself overnight. Vet gave her a hormone injection (this was a while ago, can't remember what it was exactly) which didn't really work, so have basically been trying to make sure she has a wee before going...
