Would you buy a horse knowing it’s had SI & Hock injections..?

I think it depends on what issues the horse presented with to result in the injections in the first place? Going against the grain I’ve recently bought one with a vaguely similar background so would certainly consider it again if it were the right horse. I guess the difference in my situation...

    Are équipe saddles adjustable?

They’re not hugely adjustable, I believe they can be adjusted up or down one width but it’s generally advised you only do this once as it tends to compromise the tree.

    Loss of use insurance

Just bear in mind that during the first 14 days you’ll only be covered for external injuries rather than illness or colic. No idea how that would impact LOU but having battled with an insurer over an injury that occurred a little over a month into ownership I imagine it would potentially be a...

    White horse energy delivery.

No issues when they’ve delivered to us, if anything they went above and beyond when it came to unloading and putting the pallet away.

Fussy buyer, joy rider or genuine lack of choice out there?

I wouldn’t necessarily write them off on that alone. I always find I can find tons of horses that tick my boxes when I’m not looking for one, yet as soon as I start looking I see nothing of interest. Last time around it took 8 months, hundreds of miles, countless lame/greener/shorter/taller than...

Would you buy a horse that swaps leads behind?

I know prices are crazy at the moment but that’s a lot of money for something just coming back into work. Have they said why he was out of work and for how long? My worry would be he’s been turned away for a bit due to injury and they’re selling him on now rather than getting him fit as they...

    Small Companions .... Advise please

Size wise I think you’re fine, my almost 3yo is 16hh+ (I refuse to measure him) and his current buddies are under 12hh but I really don’t think it’s fair to expect a yearling to be left alone for large portions of time (appreciate you say he’s already turned out solo, but just because others do...

Vetting showed a grade 2 heart murmour

Thanks so much for replying! So pleased it worked out for you (minus the current testing and saddle issues!) I’ve managed to take a look at the findings now and it sounds like it could be a bit more significant than first suspected. I’ll have a chat with the insurers and vet in the morning but...

Vetting showed a grade 2 heart murmour

@jonshell I was just wondering what you decided to do in the end? We’ve seen a horse that in all other ways would be perfect, but have just been informed he’s had a very slight murmur (0.5) since birth which apparently shouldn’t effect him or his ability to pass a vetting. I’m now wobbling...

    White Horse Energy wood pellets

My friend has, quality wise I don’t think they’re too dissimilar to the platinum ones but they were a little darker in colour and she said some of the bags were a bit flimsy.

    Horse prices... yikes!!

I feel you, I’m also unexpectedly looking (well I was before lockdown put a stop to it!) and I’ve been astounded by the price of some horses right now, especially those that suddenly mention at the end of the ad that the horse has wobblers/is just coming back from a year of field rest/has done...

    agricutural vs equestrian use

I could be wrong but I also thought it depended on whether the horses were rugged or not as to whether they could be considered livestock or leisure? Possibly misremembering as it’s been a long day 🙈

    Edgemere Equestrian

I’ve had exactly the same issue recently. Ordered in early November, got a call from Tom the next morning to say two items wouldn’t be in stock until mid December but that they’d ship everything else that day. Mid-December came and went and no sign of any of my order. Chased again and finally...

Talk to me about rubber matting

A couple of our stables are in need of rubber matting and I’m finding the whole thing a bit of a minefield as there’s just so many options out there these days. I loved the sound of ComfortStall matting but the look the husband gave me when I told him the price suggests I need to set my sights...

    I am going to rant!

I won’t comment on the rest, but we’re looking to buy another at the moment and while we won’t be viewing anything until restrictions lift we’ve still been trawling adverts, enquiring about any that sound suitable and creating a shortlist of horses to view as soon as we’re able to so personally...

    TRT or Maxwell videos ?

Maxwell all day long! We had Richard out to the youngster last year as the support I’d been promised when buying him never materialised and I wanted to make sure we were getting the foundations right. I could really relate to his matter of fact approach and way of explaining things, within weeks...

    Youngster or 'made' pony?

As others have said, definitely go with the made pony option. While the initial outlay for a youngster may be “cheaper” unless you have your own place chances are you’ll have spent a significant chunk and be no better off financially by the time you get them under saddle, and that’s assuming...

    Full loaning

I think you’d be incredibly lucky to find an owner that’s willing to still cover vet bills while the horse is on full loan, especially in the current climate when I suspect a lot of horses being advertised will be because of the owner’s finances. Perhaps looking for a share might suit you better?

Youngster growing at an alarming rate!

I feel your pain! I bought my boy as a weanling and expected him to make around 16.1hh. He’s 3 in March and already 16.1hh with plenty more growing to do and I’m 5’4 and haven’t grown so much as a millimetre in many years 🙈😂

Where do we stand legally? Deposit/vetting issues

So sorry to hear of your issues, buying the right horse is hard enough without dealers misleading people! As Rowreach suggested if the person who warned you is happy for you to let the dealer know you know I’d be explaining the horse has been misrepresented, and is unlikely to be considered...

Viewing horse for sale in Tier 3...

We’re tier 4 and in the process of horse hunting. The majority of tier 4 sellers I’ve spoken to our counting it in the same vein as a 1:1 lesson which is still allowed as far as I can tell based on the latest BHS guidance, although I’m not hugely comfortable with the idea. I’m making an...

    Husbands vs horses

Not the spirit of the thread granted, but despite his snoring I wouldn’t be without mine. How much risk is too much risk?

I don’t necessarily think you’re not ready for a loan full stop, more that this horse just isn’t suitable. It would be one thing if he was trying his luck with you but had an experienced owner who had a handle on the behaviour and could help coach you through it, but with you saying the owner is...

Does anyone buy horses at this time of year?

I’m unfortunately unexpectedly in the process of starting to look for a new dancing partner. The time of year hasn’t really factored into it aside from hoping I can find something suitable and get it vetted before Christmas.

I’m genuinely interested, as I know when we were looking a few years back the only ones quoting that kind of payload I wouldn’t travel a my little pony in, let alone my actual ponies!
