Horse is trying to kill me..

PurBee's post reminded me that my mare got stroppy about being brushed at one point and I worked out it was the brush !! Too stiff for her TB coat, or it became too stiff over time (think it was probably my lack of cleaning it, I am a skanky person :)) Changed the brush and back to being the...

I know it’s early days but having no horse is killing me!

I lost mine over a year ago and to be honest if I could have another I would have by now. But my circumstances have changed, I no longer have a job so I'm horseless for now, just ride a students' who is away at uni. It does hurt (a lot) but I've just got used to the new life. But in your shoes I...

    Welcome, Hermosa

Long shot but might it be an idea to try your older mare's field - a corner separated off with electric fence ? If she and your older mare could work it out (and you will never know till you try) that could be a game changer for the whole thing ? Don't lose heart, you've made a good choice and...

    Welcome, Hermosa

Just to say how sorry I am that her new "home" doesn't seem very open to her needs, not what you were expecting at all :( Horrified to hear their response to be honest, I bet they were feeling defensive because of the situation but it never helps.

steroid hock injections led to laminitis, now diagnosed with EMS, help & advice please

Really sorry for both you and your poor horse. Metformin really helped my poor mare when she developed EMS, does work by shifting the weight. Best of luck with it, really is awful seeing them in such pain. Edited to echo what others have said, bear in mind that from now on you will have to...

What is a 'normal' age to lose a horse?

OK this is the last one, I'll stop banging on about this now :) I have broken the breeds down by cause of death.

What is a 'normal' age to lose a horse?

Next the same info for all those that died as a result of colic. Sorry just realised my school girl error (I wish :)) no titles. Ho hum....

What is a 'normal' age to lose a horse?

So here for starters is the population of all horses where their breeding was given, regardless of cause of death.

What is a 'normal' age to lose a horse?

Yes that is something I'm looking at, most breeding was reported as "Welsh X" or "TBxShire" for example so I classified all of these with the first mentioned (so Welsh and TB in those examples). But I may have got some of these wrong, not an easy task !

What is a 'normal' age to lose a horse?

OK so thanks to DF, I have had another stab at updating the data since her last post with the first plots. I have added all subsequent posts as well and because I have categorised causes slightly differently, and there are more cases you can't directly compare them BUT here I go. I also took the...

Spring has come - apparently - anyone else’s horses a bit ‘fresh’ today?

Yes thanks, got tipped off after a bit of a silly moment with a lorry but no harm done :) Fresh indeed, had to spend quite some time in school afterwards revising manners... Just cheekiness nothing malicious.

    Would you medicate this horse?

Agree with MP, my understanding of tildren is that it acts over several weeks so I wouldn't if he were mine, also steroids I would be quite conservative over. Cross posted ! I thought tildren acted by remodelling the bone so I'd expect at least a few weeks before any effect ? But maybe you're...

First horse bought... 5 days later break my leg

Bad luck on your accident, sounds really nasty. I'm sure you've thought about this yourself but your family probably don't "get" the horse thing at all and always had those concerns that this big, frightening animal was always going to end up with you getting hurt (!) As horse people, we tend to...
