    Ridden veteran classes

Thanks all. It's a pony club show so don't think it will be a qualifier for anything. The young rider will be ok cantering in a group but may be very nervous if she doesn't know the other people (being pony club she probably will know most of them). Pony is a schoolmistress, been there and...

    Ridden veteran classes

Do they canter together and do they need to show extension/gallop? I'm taking a nervous young rider to their first show (PC) and she wants to take her oap in to the veteran but its the one class I have not done myself so not sure if it differs to normal showing classes.

    Le chameau V Aigle

Going to local farm store later to get a new pair of wellies after my 3rd pair of Seelands have died with in a few months (not impressed) I've had a quick peak on the website and like the look of the Le chameau ladies all track country and the Aigle benyl boot. So any preferences? Any one...

Following on for the to oil or not to oil post

My horse, her tack and myself got absolutely drenched today so I have brought it home to dry out and clean. I have Ko-cao-line, Naf leather soft soap or Nikwax waterproofing wax for leather. Which do I use? I normally use the soft soap for general cleaning and the ko-cao-line before...

To oil or not to oil???

I used to work for an older lady who used to melt down a bar of glycerin soap, add milk to it and let it go hard again. This worked well at conditioning tack and keeping it supple but when I tried to make it myself it went mouldy (maybe I didn't use it enough :o )

    Routine tie back ops?

What's the general view on tie back ops? Do too many get done as a precaution? I ask because I've heard of racing yards that routinely tie back their horses even if the horse isn't yet showing signs of breathing problems. Reason being to cure a problem before it happens. Would you consider...

How much should a puppy drink?

Should of put in OP she is on pouch food and her biscuits are soaked as well. So I guess she will learn how much water she actually needs as she gets older? We've not had one this young before but none of the others drank as much as her. ETA she pees probably 3-4 times an hour but sleeps for...

How much should a puppy drink?

Puppy is 9 1/2 weeks old, weighs 2kg and is a Bedlington whippet x saluki greyhound. She has free access to water as old dog has it. She drinks a lot so pees a lot. Is too much a bad thing? Should we limit her intake?

    HGV Drivers - CPC

Thanks ROG. Does that mean I have until 09/09/2014 to do the CPC or do I need it to transport livery horses now?

    HGV Drivers - CPC

Ok thanks, I've just checked and because I passed in July 2009 I just have to do the 35 hours training not the initial qualification so I don't have to do the theory or practical tests. Hope I've got that right.

So if a groom for a livery yard was to transport liveries to an event the groom would need a CPC as the livery owners are paying the livery yard for the transport is this correct?

    People with geldings...the Bean?

I'm not sure if this is what you mean but we had a gelding who had a smegma build up in his sheath and he had a hard 'bean' of it under the flap of skin by his ureter tube (sorry that's hard to explain where I mean). It was very difficult to remove and was making him sore so they vet had to do...

Hi Viz clothing makes you less visible in bright daylight

Do they say why? I could understand if they said reflective strips aren't as good in bright sun light as they can reflect the sun in to the drivers eyes (I'm sure we've all had a road sign or similar do that) but I don't understand how something bright yellow can be effected by sun light...

    Jumpers bump

I've done a search and this has come up on here before but only people asking if it's a problem etc. I want to know what causes it? Long story shortened I knew a P2P horse who was having time off last year, he was a little angler behind but nothing unusual for a TB wintering out with no work...

Your stories of wolf teeth extraction

Sorry should of explained further, the wolf teeth were deep rooted and very well attached, it took the EDT a long time to remove them, the horse was very sore and bleeding a fair bit. She is now a little head shy and worried about opening her mouth for the bit. I'm amazed she stood to let him...

Your stories of wolf teeth extraction

My own experiences are the same as the other posts. But I novice first horse owner friend told me a popular EDT in my area had removed her 4yr old mare's wolf teeth without sedation. He told her he was saving her money. Poor girl was horrified when I explained why she should of been sedated.

Has anyone PTS a healthy horse and if so, why?

I knew a lady who pts her daughters pony aged 7. They had had her from a 3 yr old and backed her themselves. Pony was fab on the lead rein but not off, she used to bolt and buck. She would bite and kick on the ground as well. The final straw was the other liveries telling her to pts as the pony...

The most unusual, deranged or downright odd thing you' want to do with a horse...

I want to take my horse hunting in either a full suit of armor or a traditional cavalry uniform and lead the first canter with a sword held high and a war cry. All for charity of course (H4H). Sadly I'm struggling to find a cavalry uniform or a suit of armor light enough.

    Belgian Ardennes

I own a Brabant (the Ardennes big brother) cross. She is not a normal big horse to ride, she is very forward going and throws some shapes. She has an amazing jump on her, everyone is shocked that something her size can jump how she does. She is very comfortable to ride. Food wise with mine...

Do you go places in your horsey clothes?

I can't remember that last time I went in to the supermarket/garage etc in non horsey clothing. I pass the supermarket on my way to/home from horses, if I wanted to get changed to go I would waste an hour/fuel/money etc. I try not to go to the drs etc in my horse clothes, I had to once as it...
