If you can’t trust them with your saddle which is ultimately an inanimate object, I’d be worried about trusting them with the pony tbh!
As above, take clear photos, include in the contract and outline expected condition upon return and maybe take a deposit.
Retail therapy complete.
I bought a uvex exxential ii. The lady didn’t think the gatehouse was likely to fit so I pretty much just tried that one on tbh.
Feels a bit weird wearing something that feels like a cycling helmet but hopefully I’ll get used to it.
And of course today the weather has...
On FB there were a few comments about hoping lot 1 gets turned back out on the fells. I’m presuming it’s an older mare but does anyone know to save me having to go off and hunt to satisfy my curiosity!
Thanks @Polos Mum thats handy to know.
That was worst weather on a very wet field and with a bigger pony, as a general rule a round lasted 4-5 weeks so my theory was I would average a big round every 4-6 weeks for 2 smaller ponies on a drier field.
I’ve never had to order in a whole supply at...
I think certainly the existing one would pop with that much :o he got 2-3kg per day max last winter and was not exactly slim on the way out! I will supplement with straw/straw chaff if required mind you.
Edit - I also misread and thought were suggesting half a bale a day EACH, my apologies!
Hmm, ok possibly a bit more than I thought.
If I could fit the big rounds in I know exactly how much I’d be likely to need and it would be so much cheaper, grr.
Will aim for 2 bales a week then, I hope I won’t need it all but if I have to carry small amounts around it’s not impossible, just not...
I need to invest in a new riding hat. I currently have a champion skull cap with some vents down the front, not an overly fancy one.
I really want a lightweight one, uvex look like they might be a bit lighter weight and comfier, are there any other brands to consider? I think my options will be...
Basic small rectangle bales, the ones that are usually about £5ish a bale with 2 strings.
Both 12hh, both fat/good doers, 1 is a Heinz 57 slightly chunky boy and the other is a Welsh a.
They will probably get their hay in nets presuming they play nicely, or in big tubs if the weather is really bad.
I have 1.5 acres, most of which is being rested and there will be 2 small ponies on it 24/7.
Access to my hay store is across the fields so I have to buy hay in before mid-September, I’ve got quite a reasonable amount of storage space.
Annoyingly the door frame is just under 4’ wide so I can’t...
Ah if he’s been out of work for a while that might impact price/interest unless you were happy to lwvtb.
That said if he seems happy and you enjoy having him about the place there’s no harm in him staying put.
My mum is looking for similar (so if he is for sale please do PM me!) and is struggling with a £5k budget which would have been more than enough 18 months ago so I’d agree with the posters above around that mark as he is a touch older
Based on your reply shady I’m reply quite hoping it’s not giardia, it sounds tricky to get rid of.
We’ve had the vet report through, it mentions a tritrichomanas (spelling!) pcr test, which subsequently came back negative.
Frank had had 2 wormers already (his routine one 10 days before all...
Thought I would come and update.
The vets visit was unfortunately inconclusive, nothing shown on bloods or faecal sample or ultrasound.
Next step would be endoscopy and possible biopsies but that is quite invasive.
So for now we have a different food and a 5 day course of panacur wormer and...
It may be completely coincidental but I think you aren’t far from where I ride a horse (Bucks, Hodgemoor area) and there was a horse on the yard who had a seizure a couple of weeks ago, thought I’d mention it incase of an environmental link although I suspect it’s unlikely.
I hope it’s nothing...
Thanks everyone. I had a feeling it might be a similar regime to keeping an EMS one.
Pony would be here on livery so the cost of tablets and tests etc would continue to be covered by the owner.
I have a good doer who goes on grass during the day with a muzzle and a bald patch with straw...
Managed my EMS mare for 6 years and it was hard work and I said never again.
I’m currently looking for a small pony companion on a livery basis and a lady has been in touch about her pony. It all sounds ideal apart from the pony has Cushings and is laminitis prone but controlled by prascend and...
Mot he would do but any repairs would be at my cost. Not expecting any issues but if the box is a few hundred miles away I don’t feel good having an unknown do it.
I’ve said I’ll have it mot’d here then be in touch.
Sorry, this has been a very rambly thread but it’s made me work out I’ll take...
It is, it’s not the prettiest thing to look at but mechanically it’s super sound and reliable, just not getting used enough to warrant keeping it, if you’re happy to PM me I’d be very grateful.
in fairness his offer is fair for the current condition but I’ve asked him to clarify who is covering...
I’ve had a search on fb, preloved, eBay and horse quest and can’t find anything similar to compare to on price, there seems to be nothing for sale?
Another concern, I wanted to sell trade as there’s only 2 month mot left, if he isn’t buying outright I guess I have to cover mot and associated...
That’s who I contacted as I recalled you saying you’d had a good experience with him.
I wonder if it’s because it’s not as fancy/new as other boxes I’ve seen him sell?
Whilst I appreciate he has the faff of dealing with buyers and showing it off, if I’m not guaranteed my money I almost feel...
Apologies, I have no idea what the proper terminology is!
I contacted a reputable company to see if they wanted to buy my horsebox so I don’t have to deal with joe bloggs public.
They came back and said yes, they would take it in to sell for me and make sure I get £x amount for it. So it sounds...
I used Lucy Priory from Barefoot South, she was a bit to the point so I can see some people perhaps wouldn’t like her but she did do a good job of the horses feet, she has other trimmers who have trained with her and cover the south area so I’d try her
Unfortunately Mark wouldn’t come out to me...
V-bandz all the way.
I have several of their items, some bought recently, some approaching 10 years old, all well used and all come up like new. I’ve tried other brands and they’ve looked very tatty or faded very quickly.
