Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

I suspect a lot of first time dog owners simply don’t realise the effort and time puppies need if they are going to grow up to be well behaved dogs.

    Trouble with Petlog

Does the name matter ? Lots of people probably change it anyway so surely they just go with the barcode. I’ve just registered my pup with animal tracker, his breeder had him chipped but didn’t register his details. It was very easy to do on line.

Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

Yes, not sure what was going on, he collapsed and his vital signs were so bad the vet didn’t want to attempt treatment so I’ll never know. he was only 5 and very much missed.

Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

I just said he did, if I still had my old dog she would be 20, not surprisingly I haven’t !

Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

I’ve just done the same thing, my dog died and for the first time in my life I was dogless and totally lost without one. I went out and bought a puppy, didn’t pay 4 thousand though, saw his mum but not his dad, no checks, no reg. now I’m thinking everywhere I go with him I’m being judged for...

That’s a lovely picture of your two horses, you should be very proud of everything you’ve done

Sprocker stooped going into my garden

I’m not sure anyone on here can guess what’s bothering your dog, what’s he like out on a walk ?

Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

Maybe we have got the answer though, cut down the crazy amount of dogs we’ve got, cut down all the walking vets bills and all will be well !

Box rest, horse getting upset, help?

I would turn her out as she’s quiet and you have a small paddock. Leaving her in and upset could do more harm than good and definitely don’t make her an electric pen

Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

In an ideal world we should probably just stop breeding dogs that are known to have health problems but that’s not going to happen. A lot of the more popular breeds are the ones that have health problems, funny thing human preferences.

Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

I’m not sure that knowing one dog with dodgy hips is significant of anything, anymore than someone else saying their cross breed lived to be 18 and never suffered with anything.

    Schnauzer..really bad news .

Just want to say how sorry I am, she looks like she’s a lovely dog and this must be so hard for you all x

Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

I could well be wrong but I thought cockerpoos etc were a straight cross of two different breeds and shouldn’t be bred with each other ?

Insurance to train dogs belonging the other people

I don’t see why you would need insurance if it’s just casual ?

Rant - The Current Dog 'Pandemic'

The problem is dogs like in those awful photos are highly sort after and worth thousands of pounds.

Getting a Dog - where to start?

Get a collie, that’s my best advice !

    Best tendon support boots?

I would say nothing, no boots can support tendons and by trying you could just add to the problem.

    Issues in selling a horse

I very much doubt anyone buys a horse for £4000 and then a week later gifts him back

    Buying puppy advice

I wouldn’t do that, it sounds really odd. A group viewing makes it too stressful for the humans and the dogs and you could feel pressured into making a quick decision which is not the way to buy a pup.

What is the most stupid thing said to you by another dog owner??

There’s a man near me who walks a black Labrador, couldn’t be more of a black Labrador but he thinks we have dogs in common as he insists his is a working collie. He had a lab before who died and he wanted something else so he rang someone on a farm with a collie litter and came away with .....a...

    Advice needed

Maybe have a good think about things and when you are feeling calmer go back and talk to your vet again about the pros and cons ?

    Advice needed

Welcome to the forum and the only advice I can give you is I had a collie with the same problem years ago and I believe it’s fairly common in older bitches. I had mine operated on, it’s not a big operation and she was fine afterwards. Are you scared about the operation ? I’ve had much older dogs...

Thoughts appreciated on soundness - video

Are the problems you are having recent ? Could she be getting an abscess? That’s usually my first thought with a vague lameness

    Kennel Cough

    Kennel Cough

It’s not Covid ! I wouldn’t worry unless your dog shows signs of it.

    Perfect storm for pet owners

It’s not just vets being affected although with 3 million extra pets it’s not hard to see that’s a lot of extra customers. There are a lot of businesses struggling with staff absences, maybe after today with no need to isolate things will gradually start to improve.
