Goals for next year? Please share!

Hopefully I will get the Shetlands out to some more shows but all the shows round here use the same 7 or 8 judges - they just rotate around the shows every year ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ so it becomes very predictable who is taking home the rosettes hence I don't often bother wasting my time or money. I will be...

Do we over clip our horses

Yeah clip the sweaty bits on one side, take a quick pic then take the rest off! No harm no foul and it would give us all a laugh! I have just been into work to clip 1 that runs tomorrow. I looked at him at the start of the week and he looked great, no need to clip. Glanced him out of the...

Buying unseen ... tell me your good and bad experiences

We have bought a few youngsters and mares over the years without seeing them in the flesh first but their bloodlines were what stood out. The only ridden pony to come here unseen was Flint but his show ring record stood out for itself. He was a whizzy, get on with the job type pony But so much...

Do we over clip our horses

This is why I now only clip racehorses and don't do anyone elses! Half head and legs on, all the rest OFF! So much easier!

I use michronised flaked barley at ยฃ10 a bag from Carrs Billington.

Do we over clip our horses

I clip the racehorses because I have to not because I want to ๐Ÿ˜‚ none of my own are clipped as they are not in work. The birds like gathering the rolled out hair or standing on the horses backs to pluck hair out to make their nests with in spring

    FFS, horse

Both my old grey Shetland and the Welsh cob can be tricky to catch. Ie. It was once in a blue moon you could catch either of them in the field! It just wouldn't happen! But open the gate and let them into a smaller area and you had absolutely no issues what so ever. Food never, ever worked. As...

Petition to allow barefoot TBs to compete in RoR classes

Correctional shoeing would suggest or highlight a confirmation fault or hide a lameness if wearing normal shoes. It is the same for all showing classes - if shod they must be traditional shaped shoes made from steel, lightweight steel or aluminium.

HOYS - Showing the world that a lame and obese pony can be a champion

The pony JLC is on - Briar Pandora is the paternal grandmother of Briar Snow Fox who was 3rd in the Open Ridden at HOYS this year and 6th in the First Ridden. He also qualified for the Lead Rein but was unplaced. Their breeder, Mrs Hampton was the confirmation judge in the M&M Junior ridden at...

HOYS - Showing the world that a lame and obese pony can be a champion

Yes they used to ride them in the finals at the NPS Championships. Then they stopped riding the small breeds as not all judges were small enough to ride them. They might still ride some of the large breeds but not many now. I think the judge still rides the C's and D's at the Royal Welsh...

HOYS - Showing the world that a lame and obese pony can be a champion

I felt like one of those earlier ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚ I rode a barely scraping 16hh narrow horse that my legs went straight down on and there was obviously no belly behind my heel as he is race fit then I got on my 17hh tank of a horse who again is race fit but always carries a little around the waist. I could...

HOYS - Showing the world that a lame and obese pony can be a champion

Trust me that shetland and rider combo are some of the better ones out there with adult riders! If you had seen a couple of the jockeys on them in the Open flat class you may rethink your idea of the whp! Though I was glad to see the kids holding their own in the Open Ridden on their shetlands...

What do rosettes mean to you

Tatty of course he needs a board of his own! Though my ocd wouldn't allow my boards to look like yours... I like my tails tucked in ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚ BTW this board hasn't been touch since it was put up in 1999 ... oops!

What do rosettes mean to you

Like everyone else - memories! I can remember winning the majority of them! I have hundreds of them from various different horses and ponies over the years and they all mean something different. I have 2 white 1sts and the white, gold and tartan champion rosette and sash to go with them. They...

Petition to allow barefoot TBs to compete in RoR classes

Yes it is a rule for one Hunter society too. It's a daft rule and one that means I won't ever show in RoR ridden classes again. Gray wore front shoes when showing but not hinds and he was perfectly happy doing that. He doesn't wear shoes at all now.

    Trevor Hemmings has died

A very sad day for racing. Mr Hemmings was a wonderful man, had a great eye for a horse and enjoyed every moment of his horses racing. He will always be the King of Aintree from an owners angle. R.I.P. Mr Hemmings

Buying a horse with a chip found through X-rays

If the horse x-rays clean now and is sound I would kick on and buy it if it otherwise everything else you could want. Yes there will be insurance exclusions on that leg but in the grand scheme of things the joint should give the horse no further problems in the near future, it may just get...

They redid the saddling boxes a couple of years ago so they are so much brighter but we don't use them, we tend to saddle everything in the stables out of ease. And of course its raining now ....

The stable yard is a pit of mud. Everything is on a horrible hill. Its 4 hours to get here. It ALWAYS rains! But to be fair it does have scenic views and they do look after the race track itself very well.

HOYS - Showing the world that a lame and obese pony can be a champion

One of mine was a stallion until he was 7yo, he doesn't have such a huge crest now as a ridden pony and he does a bit of everything but is still more than well schooled enough to go to HOYS. Our Welsh was cut at 5yo, he doesn't have a ridiculous crest, he has a nice one. So being cut later...
