Who bought him the Disco Knickers?

Lol! Agreed - he would've been soggier if I'd allowed him to go at the speed he wanted to!

Who bought him the Disco Knickers?

Alf's head fell off and his brain fell out this morning. A planned mooch round the block turned into him grabbing the bit and trying to piss off with me, then when I made it clear that I wasn't having any of that, he had a snorty, bouncy, jiggly, pissagey, spooky meltdown all the rest of the...

I try and keep things tidy...

He's very good at opening his top bolt, and I am usually very good at checking! Someone else got him in last night, as he was kicking off at the gate, and I got distracted by coffee, so didn't check his bolt before I left!

Omg cjd Pumpkin has been sold

Oh absolutely! I'm not disputing that. I guess I feel a bit sorry for her that many of the responses to the news (everywhere - not just on here!) focus on how rich and well connected she is, rather than how hard she has worked to be at the stage she's at at a very young age.

Omg cjd Pumpkin has been sold

It's not her first rodeo -she's got some lovely horses already, and she's been competing a long time. Her family is local to me, and a friend has worked for the family a long time - she's very well supported, both at home, and by British Dressage, so I think she'll be fine

I try and keep things tidy...

He hasn't got any teeth, so he's mostly just played with it! Timestamp on the cctv shows that he didn't escape til 10 mins before I got up there to feed, so hopefully he's fine!

Omg cjd Pumpkin has been sold

I get the green eyes, I really do - but this isn't an average 16yr old who has stamped her foot and demanded a GP horse. She's on the Junior GB team, and is a very very talented rider. I think it's fairly safe to assume that she is on track for the Senior team when she's older. Yes her family...

I try and keep things tidy...

It's a shame that the horses are hell bent on causing chaos and destruction wherever they go. This was a big bale of haylage yesterday - neatly rugged up. The filled haynets were also neatly stacked on top of the bale. Somebody (not me!) didn't do the ancient TB's bottom bolt up last...

    CCTV

I've got a camera on my yard, which everyone knows about. If anyone comes on the yard who shouldn't be there, and gets caught on camera - tough! I have notices, and don't use the audio function eta - my camera is for monitoring the horses welfare, rather than security.

    Clipper desensitisation

Don't go in assuming that he's going to be bothered, or he'll think he needs to worry! If he didn't give two hoots last year, I wouldn't expect him to be any different this year.

Cordless clippers that don't require selling your first-born

I bought some Masterclip MD Roamers a few weeks ago, for all the jobs that I can't be bothered to fire up my big Hauptners for, and I've been pleasantly surprised. They cost £150 and are lightweight, quiet, and powerful enough to do a full clip.

Young TB, just out of racing, stabled for AGES...BOOM!

I can tell the difference, honest! He is both - I suspect the trip over from Ireland took some out of him, and I have no idea what else happened in between his last race in early Oct, and now. He is very poor

Young TB, just out of racing, stabled for AGES...BOOM!

He's a livery, not mine so I won't be the one dealing with him getting spicier when he's not so poor! I feed ad lib forage to fill the ribs out, rather than lots of hard feed, so hopefully he won't go off his rocker on my watch

Young TB, just out of racing, stabled for AGES...BOOM!

He's SO good! All he really wants to do is eat, which is useful, as he's very skinny!

Young TB, just out of racing, stabled for AGES...BOOM!

Except that there was no BOOM. He arrived a week ago, and has been in isolation, stabled 24/7 with 5x daily hand walks/grazing. Prior to being here, he was stabled 24/7 for two weeks, and only came out for viewings. Although he is an absolute sweetheart, I was expecting him to have a bit of a...

You've bought the horse, but somehow "forgotten" to mention it to your significant other ...

Not my partner, but my parents! As far as they know, Ivan is still a Blue Cross foster, and doesn't cost me a penny. I haven't actually lied to them, but I have withheld the truth. I'm not quite sure why they still worry about my finances so much - I am 49 years old and have managed to keep...

Do we over clip our horses

I am slightly nervous about him having weird patches if I clip patches first, but I suppose I could do it, photograph it, then whip the rest off! He has a bargain Bucas arriving soon, so I will attack him as soon as it arrives!

Do we over clip our horses

Alf, who grows a very dense winter coat, is a sweaty thing. If I clipped his sweaty bits, it would be girth, between front and hind legs, a couple of swipes up each shoulder blade, a saddle pad shaped bit on his back, an upside down icecream cone over each stifle, a rectangle up each bum cheek...

Turning away mid winter for a month

Turning fit clipped stabled horses into feral field beasts is my specialist area, and I can say with my hand on my heart that yours will be absolutely fine! I would recommend getting them out overnight a week or so before you fly, so that you know they are fine, and can enjoy your holiday...

Do we over clip our horses

I've always thought it would be quite fun to clip a horse only where it sweats, just to see how bizarre a genuine welfare/convenience clip would look. Always seemed a bit weird to clip the bits that don't get sweaty, and are the most exposed bits when rugged, and leave hair on the bits that are...

Do we over clip our horses

I call this the "f**kit" clip! Alf gets it most years, as he is a devil for twitching while I clip lines! Paying customers get the clip they want, but my own horse gets what he deserves!

Is it neurological? Is something broken?

It's just my preference - quicker when it's pouring with rain and I have 14 horses all needing rugs on, and I really don't like undoing leg straps that are covered in poo, or wee'd on!

Is it neurological? Is something broken?

Just to clarify - this was a light hearted post! The horse is on full livery, and I live in leafy Berkshire, not on the side of a mountain, so I swap leg straps for fillet strings wherever possible, so that I don't hobble them every time I take the rugs off! I actually swapped back to leg straps...

Is it neurological? Is something broken?

If it was a huge issue, of course I'd do as I was told, but I'm pretty confident that because the rug came with leg straps, the owner believes that that's the only way to use it. I do intend to have a chat when I next see her, so we're both in agreement about how the back of the rug is secured!

Is it neurological? Is something broken?

I think it's partly my fault, as we've been waging fillet string v leg strap war for some time. I take the leg straps off and turn one into a fillet string, which works just fine until the owner visits, when the leg straps are back on (I find this out when I take the rug off - you all know the...

Is it neurological? Is something broken?

Bit of a panic earlier, when an elderly inmate circled repeatedly, then walked sideways down the field like a crab, with me and two others in hot pursuit, fearing the worst. On inspection, we realised that the owner had effectively hog tied the poor creature with a fillet string unclipped...
