Looking for a certain bit, help?

Unfortunately not, I don't think. this bit was incredibly flexible (like you could almost fold it in half) and I think thats one of the big reasons he went so kindly in it, it had just that bit of leverage but not a 'strong' bit. Makes me very glad for my old horse who cruises around in a...

Looking for a certain bit, help?

Hi, We've just gotten a new horse, and have run into a bit of a problem with bitting. His old owner had him jumping in a bit that was kinda like a spanish gag, crossed with a (really flexible) mullen mouth, he seemed to go very very nicely in it and we would like to keep things the same...

    injury muscle or something else

a vet should be able to help rule out any other issues that could be causing the discomfort, so I would get a vet if you were concerned, without nessersarily having to nerve block.

    MSM?

the injections have helped a tonne with the hock (before it was diagnosed he had started getting really really tense in canter and reared a few times, that was when we knew something was wrong and he needed a vet). The injections (plus a bit of bute for the first week) put a stop to that all...

    MSM?

So I've got one of your typical 11 year old, ex racehorses with too much wear and tear, still young and should be in his prime but gets v/stiff (esp. in the cold weather) and has a bit of arthritis in his hocks. A fabulous vet diagnosed him with the arthritis and had us put him on monthly doses...

    Money saving tips!

Went to the stud where my coach trains horses one day. Pile of about a hundred 'ruined' rugs , many perfectly repairable, sitting rotting in a shed. My mum and I are trying to figure out a way to steal them, repair them and give my horse an entire new wardrobe;)

Is this too many events for a horse?

Okay thanks everyone! I'll talk to the vet and the my coach too but I think your advice is right, 3 of the 4 and safe him for the future:)

Is this too many events for a horse?

the good thing is one of the events (the last one in the month) is only 10 minutes from my house (3* venue thats open for training year round 10 minutes from my house!!!:D) and 30 minutes from where the horse lives so just goes there for a few hours then comes home

Is this too many events for a horse?

I think he could easily cope mentally, he's normally quite happy and relaxed out, I'm just not so sure how he would go physically, and as a general rule, would that many events be 'frowned upon'? I think I probably will end up doing 3 of the 4...

Is this too many events for a horse?

Hi, So I have a bit of a dilemma here, there's been a bit of gap on my and my horse's eventing calender, we did our last ODE about a month ago and there aren't any near by for about another 6 weeks, and then suddenly there 3 ODE's and a cross country clinic in the space of a month that I would...

    I feel sick!!!!

that woman deserves a no smaller punishment than if she had murdered her own child. I almost pity her, because it would take someone seriously sick and twisted to do something like that. That being said, she still deserves to be locked up for a very very long time at the very least. Animals...

what colour tack on a black horse?

IMO if you've got a black horse your lucky because pretty much every color looks decent on them, whether thats tack, rugs, boots, etc. The only color tack I really do NOT like is a newmarket or tobacco color. It just ends up looking orange and the contrast is way too strong

Am I just being a wimp, or was this totally against competition etiquite?

ah no we did verrrry badly on the first day... second day was alright but that was after we moved away from the party-ers and got some sleep oh and yes, my mother did hear a few of them complaining about hangovers in the showers that morning (and when she was marshaling, apparently glared at...

Am I just being a wimp, or was this totally against competition etiquite?

Hello everybody:) I just wanted some other people's thoughts on something that happened at the event I was at this weekend, as IMO there was some incredibly bad conduct from some other competitors (and okay, a part of me just wants to vent it out). But anyway, at this event, it was the Friday...

    Money saving tips!

remember when at saddlery sales (or any other sale for that matter); if you didn't need it or weren't going to buy it in the first place you are NOT actually saving ANY money by buying it now, just because its discounted

Oxers you can jump both ways?

Swedish oxer;) Athletically, square oxers are harder to jump than sloping oxers ( I personally HATE jumping them, so all the more important to school them!)

Poor condition Tb (please comment - Gypsy Girl)

Make sure he is up to date with teeth and worming. depending on how reputable the place you got him from, he might need his teeth checked (we had my thoroughbred done every 6 mnths for about a year and a half after we got him off the track as his teeth needed a fair bit of neating up). And even...

    Head Cams????? (also in NL)

before you buy a headcam (or ask for one for a present!), make sure you watch a video of someone riding in one. I thought they were an awesome idea until I watched a video and almost threw up from all the bouncing around as the horse moves, it made me feel so motion sick, but that could just be me;)

    Ice boots

Hi, I'm starting to get more seriously eventing and I'm beginning to do a bit of research on ice boots, to ice the horse's legs after cross country. I was wondering what opinions people had on certain brands and styles, and what they would recommend, pros and cons, that kind of stuff. From...

    Winter rug help!

You can't really get much more than an aproximation from height, my horse is taller than my friend's but he wears a rug size smaller, and then different brands will fit a little differently. This might help, though, so you can measure her, its reasonably easy...

    Winter rug help!

I'm in Australia so I'm not sure about how cold it is where you are (I'm guessing England?) but my horse has a medium turnout (so around 200g fill) and then I have a fleece to stick underneath it if it gets really cold (and believe it or not, Australia DOES get cold!), and then a rainsheet for...

best way to care for leather?

I always have kinda a three step process when cleaning most tack ESPECIALLY with new stuff. No matter how good the quality, a brand new bit of leathery goodness is going to be a bit dry, simply from sitting around in a store. So before I even use it, I clean it (and if its cheaper or really dry...

    Money saving tips!

save rugs that are old or too ripped to be worth repairing, then when your horse next rips his current rug (which will invariably happen) you can hack up your old rug to sew on as patches, rather than sending it to get proffesionally fixed. I use tooth floss (stronger and more waterproof than...

    saddle rubbing

one of the saddle fitters was an independant one, who was also the equine massage theripist we've had a couple of times to look at the horse, the other was from the saddlery, bringing the saddles. They looked at putting foam inserts in a half pad but due to my horse being really annoying (too...
