Be mindful that some horse droppings will have traces of wormer in - they can be very toxic -just a thought

    When it’s time 😔

No - would never want to keep a dog in constant pain …. It’s compounded at the moment that vets round here won’t pts at home due to covid 😬 and I didn’t really want her taken into the surgery . I was wondering if the equine vet would do it as a one off ..

    When it’s time 😔

Trust me I am not afraid of PTS nor judgemental of those going early- I was merely trying to gain some opinions of best ways to judge quality of life when they’re in the ‘grey area’ ie not completely well but not awful either . I put up with arthritis but can rationalise the pain . Dogs...

    When it’s time 😔

I’ll investigate the codeine option. She loves her food - we feed her 3 small meals a day as she’s a typical gsd who gets biley if she goes too long without eating . If she stopped eating it would be the end .

    When it’s time 😔

Thank you for your replies . If I was advising a friend I would always go for a week too soon but I think it’s especially hard when it’s your own. She is with me all the time pretty much so I’m watching her closely. She’s had metacam, carprieve and gabapentin but paracetamol is the most...

    When it’s time 😔

I have a 12 year old GSD She is struggling with arthritis in all 4 limbs and is no longer able to walk very far . She is on a variety of painkillers and supplements and still enjoys her food . Recent tests showed slight kidney issues but I declined the kidney scan as all other tests normal. I...

    New owner with Shetland ponies

The leaf on the left looks like creeping buttercup and the one on the right ragwort. Ragwort is highly toxic and the rosettes should be pulled up with the roots to prevent spread. Buttercup can cause sores and irritation when there are flowers present but is no where bears as bad as ragwort

    Horse vs partner

Please check out the effect ACEs ( adverse childhood experiences) have on young children being brought up in toxic relationships. Your child would be best out of it as would you- I agree with the suggestions about finding a sharer or even a full loan for a while whilst you concentrate on sorting...

Do you have enough land to offer diy livery - another person may be willing to help with some if the chores for reduced ££ ?

At my wits end.... Time to give up horse keeping?

So sorry you are feeling like this . I guess you need to decide if the horses are causing you more anxiety than they are relieving stress by providing you with a hobby you enjoy🤔 When I have decisions like this I try to imagine how I’d feel without them . If your answer is relief then you need...

    Loss of use

I’ve only had it for one horse - a youngster like yours - it took an age to prove he wouldn’t come good again including turning him away for a year , medical treatments, physio , x rays , you name it we did it in trying to get him sound! We had to get a second opinion from a large vet practice...

    Trailer towing

I don’t think it would be safe or legal. When you search tow capability it comes up at 750 to 1100 kg which would barely cover the empty trailer never mind a 500 kg horse and tack . It wouldn’t be able to stop it especially on a slope and would be unstable . My friend tows with the kuga ( tow...

    Spraying for weeds in September?

As title really- I was wondering whether people would spray paddocks for weeds in September? Horses will be moved to winter grazing by then and I wondered if it’s worth doing the preparation now rather than in spring when the ground gets more churned up by tractors? Thanks for any advice!

Grazing muzzles - done to death, I know, but....

I’ve used the shires one by plaiting the mane around the poll band. I also use extra bands on top of the Velcro strap which stops them rubbing it loose
