    Dressage to Music - stickers

I've done "the hard bit" - put music together, burnt the disc, hope my floorplan works to the music as haven't been able to run through the final version... have done the ppl licence forms to bd and received stickers. However, I thought it would be a case of receive stickers - put them on the...

    Posting photos using Flickr?

been a while since I used flickr but if you right click the image, go to "copy image location" or phrase that seems similar to that (I use firefox on linux so wording may be different)... on the h&h forum, put [img*]right click and paste link in here[/img*] and don't put in the asterisk*

Towing with a new L200 warrior double cab

I have recently bought a series 5 warrior. Love towing with it and like general driving with it too. The warrior and barbarian have reversing cameras - very useful for hitching up and the image is accurate. The newer (ie series 5) models are more fuel efficient than the hilux (one reason I chose...

Yard trying to dictate how many times my horse is ridden

That's really odd - my horses can be worked every day of the week sometimes as i know they will get a break for whatever reason - doesnt happen often but possible. If you want your horse fit and it's capable then what's the problem?

Horses living out- how often are yours checked?

visit twice a day. land owners often walk round the field so if there was an obvious issue they could call. sometimes can be seen from the road but there are trees making it not always possible. Don't leave fly masks on overnight. I visit more if riding/farrier/dentist etc and don't hesitate to...

    Fence walking

one of mine does it at times of stress - usually physical. When he had a big cut on his leg and I wanted to let air get to it (had already been bandaged a while) he wouldn't settle. First time he fence walked got the vet out, they gave pain killer and he settled but I also Put on a bandage (of...

    Relocating Inverness shire

    Saddle Query

I second trading standards. They were very helpful when I had issues with a saddle fitter - they acted as a go between and I eventually ended up with my money back (but I hadn't forked out as much!). TS were at the point of telling me to take the saddle fitter to small claims court so I included...

Those of you who ride other people's horses

I am generally with Red-1. If it's health that's at risk - that included danger to myself (ill mannered horses) or them (lack of care in some way -feet/rugging(over and under)/stabling etc) then walk away. Also can't cope with owners that mess with the horse's routine "to improve things", don't...

    Turnout before competing

Ditto others - stick to normal routine, turn out then bring in when you need to get ready to go and by the time they've been in, groomed, travelled, tacked up etc they've not been out as long as usual anyway.

    Horse Trailer / Box License

search for trailer training in your local area - trainers can usually advise where the test centres are and it's much like your normal driving test

    Time between tests

I had 9mins between tests once - one was indoors and one was outdoors giving me time to do test 1... then 2 mins to get from the indoor arena to the outdoor and the outdoor was running early... I happened to know another competitor so asked if she would mind swapping times with me (the...

Just to say - I test drove an isuzu yukon truck... it's got a 3.5tonne tow capacity with a 1.9l(!) engine.... i didn't end up buying it as the engine size v tow capacity just didn't work in my head but that's what's available in the current market. Older cars usually low engine size = low tow...

I want to compete. Mum doesn't care.

I was lucky enough to own a couple of ponies when I was 14 - I however couldn't compete as everything was a long way (further than an hour and all main road) so hacking not an option and I didn't have any transport. Occasionally friends would offer me a space in their horsebox but it was...

    Hoof boots for narrow hooves?

the cavallo elb comes in standard and slim fitting too. one of mine has narrow-ish hooves and the elb slim fits well. I've got second hand sport boots on his hind feet and they fit ok too. I think he's slightly too big for size 1s but the size 2 is a bit big. However, I just use a pastern wrap...

    Stallion-like behaviour in mare

Not mine, but I know someone who had a mare that started to have stallion like behaviour and it turned out she had a cyst on an ovary the size of a grapefruit. cyst removed and horse returned to normal.

    Unaffiliated competition entries

I do a mix of both. I use facebook mainly to find up to date info from riding clubs and have a heap of bookmarks specifically for venues to find their calendars so i can work out which comps im going to and when. I agree - stamp is cheaper than the admin fee of horsemonkey or equo (some events...

    Verbindend or turtle top?

I used the verbindend on a cob and he went quite well. I tried the turtle top in my current horse (TBx) and he would stick his tongue out. Initially thought it was a schooling issue but the tongue was becoming more apparent. Swapped to transangled lozenge and within a few sessions he didn't...

    Bridle Numbers?

i bought a pair on ebay - like the round limeux but half the price (since you got 2 not 1 at a time!) - they have a popper with leather loop and a safety pin so can be used on the bridle or saddlecloth. ive used on the bridle so far and so good. I use the elastic tie ones for emergency use now...

Proite Dressage girth ...any reviews good or bad

    Trailer Test Questions

I was in the same situation as you - legal with my set up but if i upgraded car/trailer wouldn't be legal so wanted to take test before hand. I just used the trailer from the instructors since it was weighted appropriately. L plates on for the test.

I had a pony barge the breast bar in my trailer - trailer was stationary and pony got impatient and tried to walk through the bar (even though front ramp closed and jockey door closed so no idea where he thought he was going to go.... the bar bent and the pin sheered so that the bar was then...

    Saddle issues :(

Is your horse clipped under the saddle? If not, it could be the sweat glands getting blocked. A friend of mine fully clips including saddle area and that has stopped her horse getting lumps. My horse had a lump that didn't go down last year - suspected sebaceous cyst or fibrous granuoli - lump...

Do you prefer riding in long boots or short boots?

I suspect the key to your leg being in a better position and feeling the contact etc was all better was the fact you'd done work without stirrups! I used to much prefer long boots but now don't mind if they are short or long but always have chaps/gaitors on if short boots.
