    Probiotics. Comparisions on 'quality' please

Thanks. I've just wasted 2hrs of my life looking up probiotics. I can guarantee the horrid horse won't be remotely grateful. I have bought a small tub of Protexin. It's not bank breaking. I've also just bought more ProHoof, Platinum this time (worked out the same price roughly, per day, as...

    Probiotics. Comparisions on 'quality' please

Thanks. Votes so far for Protinex. I just wondered, with BioPro being more than twice the price, if it's significantly better? Is there something in it, or about it, that makes it far superior. Thanks SEL. Thankfully mine isn't reactive to stress like that but he is very diet sensitive for his...

    Probiotics. Comparisions on 'quality' please

There's quite a few probiotics availible but I don't know enough about them to make an informed decision. My young ISH has always been barefoot and as a result I'm pretty clued up on supplements and feeding. He is currently on ProHoof. However he is one of those damn 'metabolic' horses...

    Rambo Duo vs Supreme

Sorry! Thanks all. Sounds like it's the Supreme then. I've seen both at shows etc but was so horrified at the price that I dared not look at the actual rug :o Buying online isn't real money, right?

    Rambo Duo vs Supreme

I'm about to invest in a new (horrendously expensive) rug and will be getting a Rambo. But which one?! The outer part of the Duo is 100g fill and a lightweight Supreme is zero fill, but it could easily be made into a 100g with a liner. They otherwise sound very similar? Is there a difference...

    Stubben Equi Soft dressage girth

Horse still likes it. No 'looking at me funny' when doing the girth up. Everything that's borrowed it has been happy with it and it sat well on all horses.

EVA stable mat reviews (esp Abacus ones)

Thanks. Do they a decent thick top coating so they won't rip/cut with metal shoes? That's probably the biggest consideration. They're far cheaper than most brands but still fairly expensive at £30 a mat. A lot of money to waste if they're rubbish.

EVA stable mat reviews (esp Abacus ones)

Hi. I've only used heavy rubber mats before but about to buy a new set for going on livery. I like the idea of EVA mats as I will be using minimal bedding but not has much experience of them. I've found cheap 34mm interlocking ones on ebay, sold by Abacus, a rubber specialist in the...

ISH showing : Riding Horse, Hunter or Sports Horse? Pic

It wasn't ;) The ring was quite small so it was basically just a normal trot up. Judge was lovely. Her first words 'wow, he's big'. Closely followed by 'he's still got lots of growing to do' . Shhhhh, I don't want to hear that! The last time I showed him inhand was as a (smaller) 2yr old...

What did you do with your Highlands from 4 onwards?

It depends greatly on how mature they are, both physically and mentally. Some are ready to get out and see the world at 3yrs old. Some can't mentally cope until they're much older. Some are very immature and not even ready to sit on until they're 6, some are ready to do a bit of hacking at 3. If...

Advice please? Great hacker to napping monster.

Don't underestimate how upsetting/ unsettling a move can be and how long it can take for them to feel happy. I moved my youngster to a new yard last summer to use the facilties. I've had him since a baby and know him inside out. He's an outgoing, confident, friendly, extremely happy clown who's...

ISH showing : Riding Horse, Hunter or Sports Horse? Pic

Thanks! We could manage that. He's extremely well behaved inhand so calm trot won't be a problem. Is the triangle marked or do you just make it up out of the space available (bit like a showpiece). Presumably the steward will explain the plan. I'm just hoping it's not meant to be whites. Cos...

ISH showing : Riding Horse, Hunter or Sports Horse? Pic

No, absolutely not. We are NOT having that tomorrow. Words like be had. I can't run fast enough as it is. Sports horse it is. Turn out hunter in hand will probably clash with the pony's class so problem solved. Now. What do I need to do for Sports Horse?! Is that not the silly on one where...

    Renegade Viper Boots

I have a big ISH with large feet, low heels and medial flare due to conformation. Oh, and he moves like an over excited warmblood. Almost all boots are too long and not wide enough. He over reaches EVERYTHING off. Renegades (which I did sell, sorry. Still got the 3W gloves kicking about...

Mark Todd Long Leather COMPETITION field boots in BROWN

Have these been discontinued, does anyone know? I bought a pair on special offer off ebay (no returns) and they're too short. I got them in the short length because a) that's all they had and b) the measurements sounded ok. They are beautiful and soooooo comfy and I've wanted brown long...

ISH showing : Riding Horse, Hunter or Sports Horse? Pic

There is indeed numerous inhand classes. They are always more popular than the ridden classes as they don't require your horse to actually DO anything useful ;) Hence me taking the ginger ninja into one. They're an extremely good money maker for charity shows. I can't decide which one tho...

    Intro tests - A, B or C??

I really like C. Even, flowing test with plenty to occupy them but doesn't feel rushed. Prob not a great test if your horse doesn't circle well tho!

Hi I've not posted on here for absolutely ages. For anyone who remembers me buying the scruffy scrawny orange baby from Ireland a few years ago: he's not quite so scruffy or scrawny any more! But thankfully still orange. We're off to a show at the weekend and he's entered into the...

    Stubben Equi Soft dressage girth

I too have a pansy of a horse and found that it's isn't an issue. My horse is very deep and the longest dressage girth (75cm) still only does up on the 3rd bottom hole of the dressage straps. I was worried that they'd rub or catch the hair but they've not at all. When the belly piece is snug...

    Dressage girths...

I bought an Equi-soft a couple of months ago. My horse is a sensitive pansy and has always has good quality girths with a sheepskin cover, always done up slowly. However he would sometimes look at my reproachfully (he's that kind of horse) or step away from me when it came to girth time. With...

bit sizes for irish sport horse with large tongue

I have THE most sensitive fussy ISH in the world. I've tried all sorts of bits and most he hated. He hated the Sprenger bits but was OK in a Tranz Angled NS. However he's by far the best in a Myler Comfort snaffle. I've only tried a non-ported one as he's fine in it and don't want to rock the...

    Frontline spray

Spray is the only thing that'd been tested for mites and therefore the vet HAS to recommend it first as part of the cascade. It does work but it's really hard to get onto heavily feathered legs properly (I've tried a few times). Spot on is so easy. XL dog pipette per leg (for a larger cob) and...

    Frontline spray

Frontline spray is a POM so you'd need to get it from the vets, who will give you instructions. The spot on version is much easier to use (and not POM). If you buy a different brand instead of Frontline (I use Effipro) it's cheaper (and comes in handy 4 packs rather than 3packs)

    Too fat to ride?

Good riding does not make you levitate and 14st will always be 14st. Which for some ponies is far more than is fair to make them carry. Pointing out that some lightweight riders ride badly doesn't change that. At best 14st is well balanced and spread evenly. That still makes them 14st OR...

    Too fat to ride?

Scarily it's a study that suggests the pony can carry up to 30% of it's weight before it starts to stagger (or 'show gait abnormality' if you want the polite term) then goes on to suggest that 30% therefore may be a suitable limit. If anyone in their right minds thinks that it's fair to load...

    Too fat to ride?

I'm in the central belt of Scotland so not a million miles from you! Round here Highlands are common but very rarely advertised. Most are bought as youngsters with the intention to show then sold by word of mouth, if at all. If you do want a Highland then you need to go hunting and get in...

    Too fat to ride?

That was my point about Highland V Fell earlier. My friends 14hh Fell looks quite like a Highland from the side (with more fluff) but weights a good 100kg-150kg less than a similar condition and height Highland. A Highland is by far the most substantial of the Natives (and therefore a weight...

    Too fat to ride?

They are indeed deceiving and uselesw you've seen a big Highland up close, they look like less hairy cobs. However they are generally much deeper through the girth and loins than a cob. In fact a lot of cobs aren't great weight carriers. My friend has a Highland and a Comtios mare (french...

    Too fat to ride?

Wagtail: I have more Highlands in a 2mile radius than JFTD will have in her county (the joys of living in Scotland. Shame I'm not a big Highland fan ;)) I can promise you that a slim fit 14hh Highland will weight 500kg. My own resident Highland was a 14hh youngster, who hadn't filled out yet at...
