    Herringbone loading

Is there a recommended width for the horse to turn in? The reason I ask this is that I have bought a trailer rated for up to 2 X 16.2hh horses, my boy is 16hh and will load fine but when it comes to making the left turn into the herringbone position struggles. I have measured both horse and...

Ifor Williams Eventa M pros and cons

You were right about that side locker.... It's rated for 2 X 16.2' horses and is shown with a 16.3hh loading no problem... My 16hh Welsh section D X Warmblood got into it a couple of times but really struggled to make the turn to stand herringbone. Just been to a 3 day riding club camp, had a...

Welsh Sport horse as a spare...would you??

Go Welsh. Like you I fancied a Welsh section D and last July got a Welsh section D X Warmblood some where between 16hh and 16.2(sold as 16.2 but it depends on his mood)! He is fantastic love him to bits you go out on him and can't help having a big idiotic grin on your face...... He hunts, does...

    Multisystemic eosinophilic epitheliotrophic disease (MEED)

Long story. He initially presented with ulcers round all 4 correnets, sadly my vet was on maternity leave, the vet attending was at a bit of a loss so decided that he had laminitis and his pedal bone had rotated. I did not really see it as ex racehorse - flat feet! But ulcers cleared I changed...

    Multisystemic eosinophilic epitheliotrophic disease (MEED)

Thank you for the reply. My boy was diagnosed early just as his liver started to be affected by my brilliant vet. He responded well to a long course of steroids and we are now 3 year's on. He is in light work but I am careful about the level of work and the feed he gets. I think we have been...

    Training break young horse

I am happy that he is well established so I think a month off and if he gets really bored then a gentle hack now and then sounds like a plan. I would like him to fill out but not grow any taller as he is already a bit of a freak at 18hh!

    Training break young horse

We don't have a school so most of our schooling is done hacking. I do borrow a neighbour's 40x20 about once a fortnight, the rest is 2 or 3 riding club sessions a month, shift work allowing! He was backed at 3 by his breeder and re started coming up 4 by the people I bought him from who also...

    Training break young horse

Hello everyone, just looking for a some thoughts on giving an 18hh ID aged 5.5 years old a training break. He is not particularly forward going and was really hard work in a prelim test last week. Someone said it may be worth laying him off for a couple of months to do some physical and mental...

    Disheartened regarding horse

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels disheartened! I did my worst ever prelim test on Monday. 5.5yr old ID very big and lazy, just could not get him going forward and in front of my leg. It was like pushing a block of concrete around. He came to me as a 4.5year old dead to leg and...

    Help - Travelling issues

Hi again, Just had my vet check the big lad over and he had put his poll out which probably did not help him as he probably had a headache. That is now fixed. Re the driving I do take it steady and keep the speed down, but there are odd occasions when other drivers do silly things. I have had...

    Help - Travelling issues

I spoke to my local trailer center today and he said this happens quite a lot so he keeps full width breach bars in stock - I will get them next week and let you know how we get on. Just to clarify do you tie your horse in the normal place as if you had the partition in?
