Having a horse put down - Injection or Gun ?

I'm so sorry you're facing this. I've always had it done by injection and it's always been as calm and smooth as these things can be. I held a friend's pony for her and she'd chosen the gun. That sound stayed with me for a very long time, so just be prepared if that's the route you go.

Electric Fence Posts - recommendations please

Thank you all very much folks. I shall go peruse and see who has what in stock and delivery times. The main fencing is posts with 3 lines of broad posh tape. The temp stuff is for the 'just in case' situations as I like to be prepared :)

    Vet doesnt know

Off for a full work up - could be any one of many things. You're very unlikely to know what it is or how to help if you don't get the investigation done.

    Mains Energiser - recommendations please

We got what is meant to be a goody, only we have what must now be many miles of ver'posh electric fencing, and I want to add more while I figure out where the new Tornado fencing's going. Ours was a good few hundred and I've seen them at just over a thousand. Happy (gulp) to buy if that's the...

Electric Fence Posts - recommendations please

I'm on the hunt for what feels like the holy grail 😳 I'd very much like posts that have a decent spike that doesn't snap off at the hint of a helping heavy footed OH, that stays straight and true and doesn't do a visual of a Beckham bend, oh, and isn't a fragile wee thing that will snap under...

I had to say goodbye to my darling GSD

Thank you everyone. She was such a grand lass. Unusually for me, as words usually come easy, I find myself mute. I can't find the right words.

I had to say goodbye to my darling GSD

Five and a half weeks ago. It feels like both forever and just yesterday. She was only eight. Sudden heart failure. From thinking she'd just twanged a leg as her backend went a bit wonky to losing her lying on the floor at the vets was about two hours. I forget how long. I think really she...

Spayed dog acting as though in season?

Fingers crossed for your little dog lass. With the wee dog it's humping, getting aggressive with the other dogs, and three definite drops of blood. I'm really hoping she doesn't need another operation. She had a litter of two big pups at ten months old and had to have a c-section. Been...

The arguments for and against docking tails

I have dogs that by tradition would've been docked (Rotties and a JRTx) - thankfully they all have their tails. Apart from anything else I can see from a distance what's going on by how the tail is held. Whilst I i get that there'll be occasional injuries to working dogs, and those really...

Spayed dog acting as though in season?

Thank you folks. I have 'liked' all as people took the time to respond. Wee dog will have a consult, and going by my reading probably have the relevant blood test to determine if it is likely to be ORV, and we'll go from there. My small animal vets have all been been very good with my dogs...

Spayed dog acting as though in season?

Google might've answered it for me, though I don't know whether to hope it is or isn't this: "Ovarian remnant syndrome is a condition that occurs when ovarian tissue remains inside the body after a female dog is spayed. This tissue can produce estrogen, triggering signs of heat in the dog. In...

Spayed dog acting as though in season?

The wee dog, JRTxPatterdale, was spayed in April. Since then a couple of times I've wondered as there's been odd signs of being in season. I ignored the first as being hormones settling. However the last few days she been humping everything in sight, I've seen three drops of blood (there's no...
