Buying A 30 Year Old Bedford 3.5 ton?

Thanks Ester :) It's up for £2k so it's VERY cheap! Yep, I'm in the 3.5 ton FB group, seems to be the best place to find boxes at a reasonable price although have looked on Preloved too. 400kg payload?! What was it made with, lead?! Yeah, I won't be buying anything without getting it weighed...

Buying A 30 Year Old Bedford 3.5 ton?

I'm starting to think this wasn't a good idea haha! Mike007, it's petrol lol...have enquired about a 1997 diesel box (With power steering). Only thing is it's not compliant with the London emission zone which I unfortunately live in (Luckily my yard isn't within this zone). Starting to think...

Buying A 30 Year Old Bedford 3.5 ton?

Thanks guys, it's all food for thought! I've got a maximum budget of £3.5k so can't afford anything that's new.

Buying A 30 Year Old Bedford 3.5 ton?

My Dad won't be able to inspect it as lives about 250 miles away from where the box itself is whereas we live much closer. Has 9 months MOT but buyer has receipts for all work which has been done recently. Have asked about the payload but she thinks it is on the documents. Unless she can tell...

Buying A 30 Year Old Bedford 3.5 ton?

OH and me are looking at a 32 year old 3.5 ton Bedford horse box tomorrow and people at my yard think I'm bonkers. Has no power steering and a heavy rear ramp but has done hardly any miless (<50k), has had numerous new mechanical parts including timing belt and exhaust system and is very...

V-Bandz Hi-Viz and Excruciatingly Slow Delivery Times

Thanks guys, glad it's not just me that has been waiting around. Their products are great - I received numerous bits and pieces from them for Christmas as presents so I have no idea how long they took to arrive then but I'm starting to get fed up. I can sympathize if they have been inundated...

V-Bandz Hi-Viz and Excruciatingly Slow Delivery Times

I've been waiting for nearly 3 weeks for a hi-viz harness from V-Bandz without a single reply to any email that I have sent. Really unimpressed with the service from there. Has anyone else experienced such slow delivery times? I refuse to buy products from Equisafety after the Polite Notice...

Moving a heavyweight traditional cob to spain... will she cope?

I know we have a few users who are from Spain and the US so hopefully one of them will be able to help you, unfortunately, I don't have any first hand experience at this :( Your girl is very lucky to have such a thoughtful owner.

Moving a heavyweight traditional cob to spain... will she cope?

My Mum's friend moved her Fresian to Florida in the states successfully and she is obviously a bit of a heat magnet as is jet black! They do adjust although it takes time. They have barn type stabling with fans (Also helps when mucking out!), all horses get sprayed with water when coming in and...

Moving a heavyweight traditional cob to spain... will she cope?

Could you not clip her? That might make things cooler for her or stable her during the day and turnout at night when it's cooler? You may find that it's a more standard arrangement for horses in countries which are hotter. I would personally fully clip her out and see how she gets on - you could...

    Recommend a dressage girth?

I used a Prolite girth and it rubbed my horse so badly she ended up having to have a week off while the sores healed thanks to the horrible, hard material. Awful things. I've got a Fairfax now (Brought second hand for £100 from an equine car boot sale although you see them all the time on eBay)...

Talk To Me About Treeless Saddles (Especially Barefoot Ones)

I am in love with your horse - she is SO similar to my girl except mine is piebald. Even way they move is similar too. I joined the group and have had a browse and there are tons on there that I like the look of and several in my budget and in the size, cut and colour that we need. I'm tempted...

Talk To Me About Treeless Saddles (Especially Barefoot Ones)

What type do you have the London on? Thanks for your perspectives too - the Cheyenne looks too western for my liking considering we do so much dressage, I prefer the more traditional look :) LHIS, thanks, I'll have a look at this! Have ridden a friends horse in a Solution and loved it although...

Talk To Me About Treeless Saddles (Especially Barefoot Ones)

Thank you :) I know the floppy feeling - that was EXACTLY how I felt in the Fhoenix! I had absolutely no lower leg stability at all and my position and lower leg is generally very good! I've looked at the FlexEE and really like the fact that it looks like a traditional saddle as some...

Careers that give you adequate time for pony cuddles!!

Agree 100000% about not going to uni. 90% of my friends who went to uni and did nothing, wishy washy subjects and are now struggling to find work. Fair enough if you want to become a doctor, nurse, dentist etc but I wouldn't go to uni if you paid me!

Talk To Me About Treeless Saddles (Especially Barefoot Ones)

As I am at my wits end with my horses ever changing shape and the fact that her treed saddle just can't keep up with this and it's starting to cost me a small fortune. I have only owned my girl since August last year and she has seen the saddle fitter no less than 8 times in this period and has...

    oats? pony lacking in energy

I think that sounds very sensible :) Propell is also a useful supplement that I've used on my girl for a pick me up. Go for something oil based (I highly recommend Linseed) to ensure that it is slow release energy. Gives them a lovely shiny coat too.

    Equ StreamZ anyone used ?

There is another user on here, TGM, I believe that has used them with success.

What to feed a spooky good doer who lacks energy?

I would second magnesium and cutting out the copra (This turned one of the horses on my yard into a raving lunatic who was so spooky and dramatic, he was positively dangerous to ride. Took him off of it and he had returned to his usual sensible self within 4-5 days). Also, how fit is she? She...

    oats? pony lacking in energy

I would second that this could be the heat making him lethargic - my very fit, usually quite forward cob has been quite sluggish this past week; she absolutely hates the heat and does not cope well with it when being worked. She's full clipped, fed Alfa-A Oil, a Bailey's endurance balancer along...

What do you do with cobs summer legs?

Exactly what I do :) cannot abide by hair on my girls legs at all! Much nicer and neater all trimmed :)

    Head tossing when ridden? stress?

I would suggest trying a Myler if a bomber bit doesn't do the trick. I use a hanging cheek one with a slight port to it - my girl adores it.

My Embarrassing Show Experience: What should I do?

Am glad you've got a doctors appointment :) I hope everything goes okay! I really do feel for you! It must have been really horrible :( don't let nasty people like that get to you, these things happen and they've happened to a lot of people! I hope you get on okay :)

My Embarrassing Show Experience: What should I do?

OP, I really feel for you. A very unfortunate thing to happen but I know people who have had similar things happen to them (Ladies of a certain age and also at that time of the month - my friend was so embarrassed when a ring steward brought it to her attention when the judge had pulled them...

    Clipping now..yes or no?!

I'll read and comment on whatever thread I like thank you very much. Surely you could rug him if the weather turned? At least then the excess hair is gone and he still has some protection. I'm aware that some people believe that clipping ruins a summer coat (I've never had this problem, my...

    Shoppers - le mieux plum

I saw one on eBay yesterday although can't remember if it was a dressage one or not, I have a funny feeling it may have been. If you're a Facebook user, join a couple of the matchy groups and put a wanted ad out on them :)

Agrobs Pre Aplin - help me feed my oldie!

This pretty much! A very sensible way to feed - also the way I feed too despite the fact I don't own an oldie yet! I would recommend feeding straights over mixes any day as you know exactly what is in there and it's easier to adjust if the horse needs a pick me up or whether the amount needs...

    Clipping now..yes or no?!

Threads like this really annoy me. If by clipping the horse, the animal will be more comfortable then why would you not do it?

    Head tossing when ridden? stress?

I could have written this myself about 3 months ago - as other posters have said, it was my riding. I wasn't riding into a consistent enough contact and my horse simply didn't have the confidence to reach for the contact with the situation being amplified because there was no real contact to...

    Horses and relationships

I can see several options here: 1. You ditch him as it is unreasonable to whinge at someone for enjoying their hobby in the honeymoon stage of your relationship. 2. (My preferred option as this is how my OH and me work!) You compromise - you have to give somewhere. Both horses and...
