FBHS list - a select bunch

I thought Joan Bates was a fellow. Clearly mistaken. I think as with most professions - some brilliant people on that list and some others you think 🤔. I purchased a horse from a training yard run by one of those on the list. The tack they put on it to try really didn’t fit in any shape or...

    Reassurance needed

yes grass definitely flushing here. I do wonder if I’ve done the right thing increasing the grazing as he’s never had much access to grass. I don’t have particularly ‘lush’ grass normally but we’ve definitely had a lot of warm wet weather and it’s coming through. I will look into equishure.

    Reassurance needed

I am phoning the vet in the morning to discuss but I’m panicking myself. New horse arrived a month ago. Came from a busy yard where he had very limited turnout - max 4 hours a day and always solo. Since arriving I’ve gradually been increasing the turnout and he’s out with a companion pony who...

    Horse prices

I’d like to go back in at medium and work up. My old horse went to Advanced but it’s been over 10 years since I competed seriously though. I’m aware I’m an amateur I so want something that will suit a competent amateur. Id also like something proven at Elementary as have brought on two horses...

    Horse prices

So as everybody knows, horse prices in the UK are a lot higher than they used to be. I’ve been quietly looking for a dressage/all rounder for a while and just musing what to do and whether prices are coming down. I went to see two at the same yard in July last year. Gelding and a mare. The...

    Buying a horse with Sarcoids

It would depend I guess on where the sarcoids are. Could be covered by a fly rug/ boett rug/ fly masks or fly cream. You’d hope they are managed so they don’t weep anyway.

    Buying a horse with Sarcoids

But that’s not an impossible thing to do care wise really. Fairly standard in say race or competition yards or big commercial yards.

    Buying a horse with Sarcoids

I think you would have to make the decision could you write the horse off as a ridden horse and just keep as a companion or retire if there were more sarcoids? Also, people have commented that with sarcoids you should negotiate prices down to rock bottom, with the current market that’s not...

    Grooming/trimming a working cocker

Sorry purists but I’m also one for clipping. Mine never lost his puppy fluff apart from gaining a sleek dorsal stripe. He looked ridiculous and he overheated in hot weather. I always ask them to leave his tail and top knot on. But the rest goes. Even his feathery legs. 😲. Find a groomer who’s...

    Would you?

As a teenager I sporadically hunted when I could beg or borrow a mount. I really enjoyed these days out but due to life moving on I haven’t hunted in 15 or so years. It’s a long story to explain but through a work colleague I’ve never actually met because we live opposite ends of the country...

    LGV Training. Made me cry.

Thanks again for all the replies. Everybody has made valid points. In honesty I didn’t expect to get this many people commenting. It was just an outlet to get it off my chest before having to tell my partner and my friends what had happened. I have called today and accepted the offer...

    LGV Training. Made me cry.

Thank you to all who have replied. To update. I called this morning to cancel my session and explain why. I spoke with the instructor who was very surprised i was upset and did admit that he is very hard with pupils. He wouldn’t say anything about the shouting and swearing and the wrist...

    LGV Training. Made me cry.

Ok so. I called 101 and got some advice. The lady I spoke to said that if I wanted to take things further I need to go to the local police station. It does constitute as assault and they take it seriously. I’ll be honest. I freaked out about doing this. I’ve spoken to my partner...

    LGV Training. Made me cry.

All. Thank you for your replies. I have calmed down now. I was crying quite a lot when I wrote my first post. ROG. Thanks for responding too I wondered whether you would. The guy that took me today is the owner. So I would have to complain to him about his behaviour. I’m annoyed the...

    LGV Training. Made me cry.

Is it assault? Am I overreacting? It all went so quickly. Did he do it as he thought I wasn’t paying attention l? Believe me I was paying attention with all the yelling.

    LGV Training. Made me cry.

He’s the owner of the company. There’s nobody to complain to. Debrief was mixed. Said I manoeuvre the lorry well. He reminded me that the paperwork I signed at the beginning means if they don’t consider me a good standard I won’t be entered and there are no refunds...

    LGV Training. Made me cry.

I’ve just had my first lesson to do my Cat C License. Instructor showed me the basics off road around a disused air field for 1.5 hours before going out on the road. The instructor said I was driving very well. Completed the reverse and a slight incline pull away , gear changes and safe...

Good all rounder. Rare as hens teeth?

She is actually a good rider and did her stage 4. But that was 8 or 9 years ago now.

Good all rounder. Rare as hens teeth?

I am doing the weeding out lol. I’ve been very black and white about her ability. Well pretty much what I’ve said above. Do you think I need to be more explicit? In my defence it wasn’t my idea to do the eventer route... they’re blooming expensive if nothing else. I know...

Good all rounder. Rare as hens teeth?

Thanks for your reply :). I’ve looked on the allrounder category on horsequest but have also found a crossover with the eventers on the site. But will keep looking :)

Good all rounder. Rare as hens teeth?

My friend is looking for a new horse. I’m trying to help her out but I’m not having much luck either. She wants a really nice allrounder. 15.00-16.3 she’s not worried about a minimum age but I’d say 7 is being sensible - 11 years maximum. Must be good to hack alone/ in company. On the flat...

    Buying a large horse

A friend is considering buying a 17hh WB. I have expressed concern having lost a large WB of my own to neuro problems. Now I have no real evidence that larger horses are more prone to neuro issues apart from when my gelding was being diagnosed posting on forums for advice and the general...

    Horse not keen on turnout

I would have thought not, she gets hay on the floor when she comes in and a small token feed of chaff with her vitamins. But what do I know lol. They still have plenty of forage out and supplemented with hay when required.

    Horse not keen on turnout

Phew! I'm glad I'm not alone. I've been all holier than thou for months saying 'oh look how much better she is being out, aren't I a good owner with my au natural chilled out routine' only for the mare to tell me in no uncertain terms she prefers being in her stable wrapped up like an armadillo

    Horse not keen on turnout

Is anybody else's horse not keen on winter turnout? I've had my mare for 6 months or so, the old owners didn't turn her out at all, but all of the horses at my livery yard pretty much live out all year which I love. So she has been living out ever since and seemingly loving it. However...
